Following After Jesus
Having seen firsthand that Jesus was a miracle worker, the disciples now affirm that He is "the Christ of God." But, just what will it mean to follow this One? In contrast to the popular view of Messiah and His mission, Jesus declares that His mission will mean His death, and that those who follow Him must willingly have their lives shaped by the cross.

Ephesians 2:11-22, A Great Transformation
The second half of Ephesians 2 describes an amazing transformation that takes place when we have faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as atonement for our sin. No longer are we separated from God, separated from God's people, nor strangers to Christ, but we become saints, members of God's household... we become united with each other into one body, the Church.

Acts 15:1-29 - Defending the Gospel of Grace
Paul and Barnabas returned to Jerusalem it discuss a brewing controversy in the church. A council was convened to determine if a man needed to be circumcised in order to be saved from his sins. Paul defended the truth of the Gospel that a man is saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and not by anything he does, and the apostles in the council affirmed this. Peter and James then laid down some rules to help Gentile believers not offend Jewish people. In the same way we must be able to cling to the Gospel of grace alone and grow in spiritual maturity while not adding not needlessly offending the people we are trying to reach and not burdening them with unnecessary rules and restrictions.

What's So "True" About the Light?
John is not contrasting true light with false light, but Christ’s light versus any other light. All other light (human wisdom, religion, etc.) is derivative, whereas Christ’s light is from the outside and eternal. This contrasts the Greeks’ understanding of light as an inner illumination of reason or conscience, and the Hebrew idea that the light is primarily written in the scriptures. It is the source of that light, and it comes “Into the world,†revealing something from outside our ability to know.

Christ the Passover (Exodus 11 - 13:16)
God delivered Israel out of Egypt by killing the Egyptians' firstborn but passing over Israel because of their making the passover sacrifice in faith. God charged Israel to remember their redemption to all generations; to forget God's redemption and deliverance was a matter of life and death. Likewise for us today, we are charged to remember our deliverance and redemption from sin in Jesus as a matter of life and death.

Which Way Does Your Stage Face?
