I'm frustrated
Jesus, Life Coach: “I’m frustrated” Reconnect – November 8, 2009 Text: Matthew 11:20-30; James 4:1-3 Key Thought: God wants to help us overcome our frustrations, by changing our perspective through prayer. ...Jesus began to denounce the towns where he had done so many of his miracles, because they hadn’t repented of their sins and turned to God. “What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have repented of their sins long ago, clothing themselves in burlap and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse. I tell you, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on judgment day than you. And you people of Capernaum, will you be honoured in heaven? No, you will go down to the place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for you had been done in wicked Sodom, it would still be here today. I tell you, even Sodom will be better off on judgment day than you.” At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way! “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.” Matt. 11:20-30

The Gospel Frees Us From Darkness
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Once you understand the value of Jesus’ sacrifice, your notion of freedom is forever changed. You’ll discover that the most freeing thing in the world is to give yourself over entirely to the one you love, and this is exactly what happens in the gospel. The good news about Jesus is that he grants us freedom from our toughest struggles, our deepest scars, our strongest doubts, and our biggest fears. When you find Jesus, you find true freedom. ___________________________ The 2nd of 10 sermons in the Emancipation Proclamation Series at Remnant Church in Richmond, Virginia.

(Efesios 5:21-31)

FORGIVENESS: Is Total Forgiveness Realistic?
FORGIVENESS: Is Total Forgiveness Realistic? Scriptures: Ephesians 4:29-32 Luke 7:44-48 What does forgiveness mean? Forgive is translated from a Greek word meaning “be gracious” but has a much broader concept to extend grace to others as God has extended grace to us. What does forgiveness not mean? It does not.. Deny the evil that was done Excuse sinful behavior or remove the consequences Pretend it never happened or you weren’t wronged Glossing over the pain you suffered How do I know when I have truly forgiven? You no longer think about it day and night You no longer have to talk about it all the time You no longer feel the need to seek revenge You no longer live in bitterness and anger You can recall those who hurt you and can wish them well Making the four promises of forgiveness “I will not dwell on this incident.” “I will not bring up this incident again and use it against you.” “I will not talk to others about this incident.” “I will not let this incident stand between us or hinder our personal relationship.” (In a few cases this would be unwise) What does it mean to forgive like Jesus? (Luke 7:44-48) You cannot do it alone Forgiveness is a gift. Forgiveness is a response of the heart, not feelings Forgiveness and love are always connected

This Is Not A Formula
These steps are the natural response of a heart that loves God and wants His will, and does not have His will. We need to fall in love with God. Holiness begins with desire. Do you desire to be pleasing to God or to yourself. It is our lack of holiness that build barriers.
