Open Eyes, Closed Hearts
Over the last several weeks we’ve been looking in the Gospels and, in some ways, building a biography of Jesus. Our hopes have been to encounter Him as we eavesdrop into conversations He had with various people: people that are proud, broken, marginalized, some without power or resources and others with all the respect and honor you could ask for.

The Law and the Glorious Gospel
When Paul warned Timothy about teachers of false doctrine, he charged him to resist their call to use the law as a means of salvation. False teachers want to use the law unlawfully, as a way to merit their standing before God. But why did God give us the law? Is it still useful for us now? How can we use the law lawfully, as God intended?

Is God Fair?
To God there is no difference between a Jew & a Gentile. They are both under judgement. What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew? Does unfaithfulness nullify God's faithfulness? God can bring good things out of bad. God will prevail when He is judged. If man's unrighteousness magnifies Gode's righteousness, is God an unjust judge? Christians will one da participate in judging.

Living a Fruitful Life Cultivated by the Living Christ
Starting at verse nine in Colossians 1 we come to a continuation of Paul’s prayer for the Colossian church. It is here that Paul unpacks some remarkable expressions that give us an understanding of the nature of God. In the closing statement he prays “so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him." To please Him... That statement would rattle a lot of people’s understanding on the nature of God who is Often seen as consumed with wrath -- continually venting His displeasure with us. If you were to ask people, “Do you feel it is possible to truly please God?†most likely you would be met with some hesitation. But what do we see here? “To please Him†is one of the first expressions that Paul presents that reveals the nature of God. This is critical. If you do not believe that it is possible to live a life upon which God would look and take pleasure in and declare that He is pleased, how likely is it that you will pursue such a life? Your life would be reduced to nothing more than an exercise in futility.

James 4:11-17
I want to live in reality. And that means that we submit ourselves to God in humility. That means we stop pretending we are God by judging other people and making plans as if we were in control of our future. That means we start living as if we really trust God with our lives.

Life on the Other Side
No one enjoys thinking about the reality of hell, yet Jesus actually had more to say about hell than He did about heaven. In today's spiritual climate, the doctrine of eternal punishment has come under heavy scrutiny and debate. Many people, including some prominent evangelical scholars, have moved away from a traditional interpretation of the enternal torment in hell, to either a teaching of universal salvation or a view of judgement that results in the annihilation of the sinner, rather than an eternal, conscious punishment. Some feel that the subject is so far beyond our understanding and that it should be left alone in the hands of God, but one's belief in regard to judgement, punishment, and the justice of God will dramatically affect how we live, and how we reach out in love to others. Today's topic may raise more questions and debate in your mind than we are able to answer in our short time together, but if it motivates you to study the scriptures for yourself - great! Key Passage: John 5:16-30
