Mission
Mission: We learned four facets of the gospel and that those facets form a community of Learners, Family, Servants and Missionaries. The gospel allows us to know God but we know him from different perspectives. Learner (God is truth, Gospel Truth Explained, believed, Prophet, normative), Family (God is love/community, Gospel Community experience, priest, existential), Servant (God shows his love, Gospel embodiment expressed, kingly, situational) – how are all three of these missional and part of our missionary identity?
Community
God in three persons is the perfect community - family, missionaries and servants. One heart. The Father, Son and Spirit are one. Continuously serving one another and for one another. God is perfect love in perfect community. Christ comes and dies to bring us into this family. The Father adopts us into his family. The Spirit empowers us to live as this family to be the church. It is ONLY because of the gospel that we get to be one heart!
Gospel
I hope that today you will have a deeper and more thorough understanding of the gospel.
Armor of God
There is an enemy. If we do not believe there is an enemy we will not fight. We will not battle. We will sleep while our home is pillaged. We will get lazy and isolate ourselves. Who is Satan and who are demons? Where do we see them in the Story of God? Is Satan powerful? Does he love the church? What sin got him kicked out of heaven? We must realize that there is an enemy and his hatred and pride is beyond any human hatred and pride we can imagine. This was a pride and a hatred of one of the highest angelic beings.
War In Work
Gospel Identity: What is it? Where do we live it out? If it is our identity, does it ever turn off? Who has the right to define us according to the gospel?
A Noble Task
Leadership is God’s Plan. Before we begin, it’s good for us to remember that God is the Chief Leader. This is His world and we were created to love, worship, trust and obey the God who made us, loves us and cares for us.
Gospel Gossip
Our text today is two-sided. It is crystal clear that there are two contrasting lifestyles that battle one another and these lifestyles are lifestyles lived in community. On one side is falsehood, sin, unrighteous anger, devil, thief, stealing, corrupting talk, grieve, bitterness, wrath, clamor, slander and malice. On the other side we have members of one another (community/fellowship/family), speak truth, honest work, share with those in need, Holy Spirit, building up, give grace, kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, God, Christ.
Unity Through Maturity
Ephesians 4:13-16 Where are we at in Ephesians? What has been going on in chapter 4? We have been given to each other so we can attain something – maturity! We are to mature to manhood – glorified adolescence is not the goal.
Change
What’s changed for you this year? The gospel changes everything. Grown to maturity. For how many of us was puberty transforming for us? Desires changed, looks changed, voices change. Christian puberty is the same way. Matthew 12:34. Our voice changes, our desires change, looks change. This is the same for us.
One
One. If there was a word to describe this sermon it would be "one." One is used seven times in these three verses. It is very apparent that this idea of one is being repetitively hammered into our heads. But why is this one such a big deal here?
