Part 4: King And A Kingdom
King and a Kingdom From the very beginning, we see that God rules the world and his kingdom is characterized by blessing, peace, and life. The serpent deceives man and the world becomes subject to rulers and powers who rule not under God's authority, but under the power of the serpent, whose rule is characterized by curse, war, and death. God's promise to Abraham is a promise to restore the earth; this promise includes a king in the image of God who will rule forever.

The King of Controversy
According to the bible, Jesus functions in three roles. He is the Prophet who makes God known through His person, teaching and work. He is our High Priest in that He alone stands before God as our mediator. Finally He is a King. Not just any king, but the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He makes this clear as He is interrogated by a bias jury in the last hours before His divine appointment with the cross.

Under the Influence of the King
We all give someone - or something - authority over our lives. The Israelites begged God for an earthly King, dissatisfied with Him as their Heavenly King. In this message we look at why we often turn to outside influences to meet our needs instead of God.

Frontline: Kingdom Life According to David
The story of Mephibosheth is a bright spot in the chronicles of David, the second and greatest king of Israel. This story shows us something of the heart of a man who could pen Psalm 23, "the Lord is my shepherd." The themes of friendship, loyalty, and mercy come through strong. A hardened military leader certainly has the capacity to love God and his fellow man. The mystery of God's unearned favor is paralleled by the mystery of human grace bestowed.

When the Parade Passes By
About 2,000 years ago, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. It was the first day of the week in which He would be crucified. We call that day Palm Sunday and we call that event the Triumphal Entry. However, in reality, it was more like a parade than a triumphant military procession. As we observe Jesus' riding the donkey in His parade, we take a look at how some of the people who were there reacted.

Time to Forgive
This sermon examines the parable of the king that forgave his servant of his debt, followed by the servant not following suit and forgiving. It is a great reminder that we need to forgive others as Jesus has forgiven us. We only imprision ourselves when we don't forgive as commanded.

Gideon: Mighty man of valor
Summary: Gideon was a man called of God to do great things. He thought so little of himself, and was so filled with doubt and unbelief, but God was patient with him. He was still them man for the job, in spite of his weaknesses. God had a big plan, that he accomplished through a small group of men. (their army went from 22,000 to 300) God had a specific plan that they had to follow in order to be victorious. Ultimately, because he obeyed the plan God gave him, he became what God knew he was all along, the “Mighty Man of Valor”. If we will obey God like Gideon did, even when the plan sounds crazy, we will become what God desires and sees us as already.

The Call Of The King
Jesus made great promises to people who would follow him. He promised freedom and fulfillment to his followers. The question is, "Are we really following him?" What if there is far more freedom and fulfillment than we have yet experienced? Is it because we have somehow slipped away from the understanding that following Christ is the necessary requirement for the experience of his freedom & fulfillment?

The Dark King
He came to earth as an infant, but He came to reign! To acknowledge Him intellectually as King of kings is one thing; but to actually let Him reign is quite another. There is a bit of King Herod in all of us; a paranoid fear of letting go the controls of our life. But there can only be one king... Key Passage: Matthew 16:24

Jesus as King
Generally speaking we don't get too excited about having a king. We like our country's democracy. So what does it mean and how do I deal with Jesus as a king? Not even just a king, but the king.

The Death of Jesus, Part 2 (Mark 15:33-41)
The atonement made by Jesus in his death has innumerable facets. Considering four of these facets in particular, we see Jesus as the triumphant king (Christus victor); the mediator who bridges the gap of sin that separates us from God; the ultimate moral example for us; and chief of all, our own sacrifice and substitute suffering under and completely satisfying the wrath of God in our place and whose righteousness now clothes us.

Jesus, Promised by the Prophets (AM)
Adam preaches Matthew 2 in its entirety. Jesus is the Messiah, as seen from chapter 1 in His genealogy and virgin birth and now in chapter 2 in His fulfillment of prophecy. Jesus fulfills God's promises made centuries earlier--born in Bethlehem, called out of Egypt, rescued from Ramah, called a Nazarene.

The Death of Jesus, Part 1 (Mark 15:16-39)
The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark highlights the irony that Jesus is mocked as king, but he is in fact king of all. Jesus suffers not only physical pain, but also the very wrath of God, in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and types, and to secure our salvation and life by suffering in our place. We are no longer separated from the presence of and fellowship with God, and in fact the crucifixion reveals clearly God's love for us. The only proper response is for us to worship in awe and gratitude.
