29-JUN-2008 - Matthew 12– The Gospel as Told by Matthew
Jesus engages in more direct conflict with the religious leaders of his day. He has been proclaiming the freedom and availability of this new Kingdom of Heaven. Yet, people are having difficulty understanding. So, just prior to his additional Kingdom teachings in Matthew 13 & 14, he goes through a series of frustrating conflicts between the kingdom of this world and his kingdom.

The Praise of Jesus
Introduction: One thought.....lingered in my mind with something of comfort and more of awe....."He has been here today, and no doubt will come again"; and mentally repeating these words as one regretfully meditating on a vanished vision, I awoke and it was a dream. No, it was not a dream. It was a vision of the deepest reality, a miniature of actual ministry. - Dr. A.J. Gordon

Isaiah: Restoring the World (Isaiah 6:1-8)
Is the gospel about personal forgiveness of personal sin, or is it about the corporate restoration of the entire cosmos? Christians have lined up on both sides, ready to argue their case, but have failed to see what’s really at stake in this discussion. In this sermon, we will see that our longing for transcendence and our desire for restoration are ultimately met in the same way.

Part 4: King And A Kingdom
King and a Kingdom From the very beginning, we see that God rules the world and his kingdom is characterized by blessing, peace, and life. The serpent deceives man and the world becomes subject to rulers and powers who rule not under God's authority, but under the power of the serpent, whose rule is characterized by curse, war, and death. God's promise to Abraham is a promise to restore the earth; this promise includes a king in the image of God who will rule forever.

All You Need is Need
Most of the stories have been beautiful pictures of His pursuing grace towards those who are broken down and hopeless. Jesus has shown an incredible capacity for love towards the unclean and marginalized. He breaks all the stupid-man rules by going right to the center of lost and welcoming them in.

Prayer and the Gospel
As we finish our discussion on the mission of the Vintage Faith Community, we must conclude with the humble confession that we cannot do this on our own. As we survey the book of Acts and read about how God sent his church on mission, spreading the joy of salvation in Jesus, we immediately recognize that it was a supernatural work. Tonight we talk about the kind of praying that energized the early church into this mission.

The Nature of Faith (Romans 4:13-25)
Paul references the promises of God to Abraham, the ultimate fulfillment of which is the restoration of fellowship with God and the establishment of God's kingdom in the new heavens and new earth. Abraham and his descendants will be heirs of the world. Paul clearly demonstrates that it was not obedience that secured this promise to Abraham, but Abraham's faith in God and God's grace toward Abraham. Works and reward are utterly opposed to faith and promises. Just as with Abraham, we do not inherit God's promises by obedience or lineage, but we inherit God's promises by faith in God. We too will experience restoration of fellowship with God, and will participate in his eternal kingdom!

Its Time
Jesus is everywhere in the consciousness of our culture. Yet, there is a growing unease about the current version of Christianity in our society. Rather than spending all of our time reacting to religious culture or tradition, what would it look like to honestly engage with the ways of the master – how Jesus lived and what he taught?

Eating with Jesus Part 5
This is the third occasion that we find Jesus eating in the home of a Pharisee. This time Jesus addresses the nature of his kingdom and it proves to be a total contrast to the kingdoms of the world. The kingdoms of the world are characterized by exalting oneself and doing whatever it takes to get ahead. On the other hand, the kingdom of Jesus is a kingdom of grace and is therefore characterized by humility and compassion.

Kingdom Practice: A Kingdom Mission
Doctor Luke has so clearly laid out in chapter 18 the two options in trying to find acceptance before God. It's either a self-righteous performing or a desperate dependence. It is those who know how needy they are for the grace of God that He delights in and takes the initiative to save. Not only is this the posture of life in the kingdom, but this too is the mission of the Kingdom, desperate sinners who know they are glorying in a merciful Savior in front of other needy sinners.

Re:Thinking the Christian Life - Politics
We have as many political nuts in the church as outside, and we have Christians who shun politics altogether. Scripture, however, does not allow us to be uninvolved. Politics is hard, not only because the issues are hard, but because we live in two kingdoms. It's hard to figure out how to navigate through the political landscape while living both in the kingdom of God, and the kingdom of man.

Luke 1:26-38 - God Breaks In
This passage Marry receives the message that she will give birth to the Creator of the world - Jesus. One can ask 2 basic questions in this passage: 1) How did God break into this world because he exists seperate from this world, and 2) Who is this God who breaks into this world? The reader realizes from the start that God inpregnates marry by the Holy Spirit to provide a sinless human nature for Christ as well as the right linage to the throne of David. The God who breaks in is Christ Jesus and is the savior of all mankind. The amazing thing about this miracle is that God breaks in to save sinners who are in rebellion from Him. This even call the incarnation is truely an intersection of grace and mercy in God's plan of remption.
