When God Wants A Witness, Part 2
God wants a testimony to his goodness, grace and mercy. Peter preaches Jesus Christ to the people who are now open to hear the sermon, he charges the people with murder, attributes the healing of the man to Jesus Christ of Nazareth, encourages the people, softens the situation by calling them brethren, remembers that once he had also denied Jesus Christ , and he exalted the people to become Christians.
When God Wants A Witness, Part 1
God Always Has A Witness. When God wants a witness for soul saving, he knows how to get one. There will never be a time there will not be a witness for the Lord on this Earth. Spiritually we are pitiful without Him. How did Jesus show up in your life? If you are looking for a blessing, go to Jesus.
Luke 14:12-14 How to Host a Dinner Party
As children of our Father in heaven, we should not be neglecting or leaving out other people. Instead we should be working on the principles of GRACE, and not looking for what we will get in return for our giving. These principles apply to every area of our lives.
Feast for the Humble
Most Christians, if we’re honest, might have to confess that the prevailing story that our lives and reality are defined by is not the story of the Kingdom. But this story is comprehensive in scope and it calls for our whole life, our own individual stories, to find their fulfillment and meaning only in its story. Our identity, our purpose, our sense of value, our meaning, our security, our idea of comfort and pleasure are all to be absorbed into this great story that is the true story of the world and our lives.
2 Samuel 9 - Covenant Kindness
It is easy to be two-faced in our socieity today. It is easy to forget (on purpose) promices that are made because our circumstances change and it is to our advantage to forget promices when we think there are no bad consequences. This is the position David was in, but David made sure that he fulfilled his coveant with Jonathan by showing kindness to Mephibosheth. Normally kings and leaders would eleminate any leaders or family of a former rival kingdom, and thus Mephibosheth had something to fear in coming into King David's presence. But David in the all important verse 7 shows a coveant kingdness that not only protects Mephibosheth's live but provides for him in land and food and gives a great position (eating at the kings table). today We understand from David's covenant with Jonathan that God's covenant with us provides benefits in we can have security in living, abundance in living, and dependence in living. We are totally dependent on the covenant Kindness of God in providing our security in salvation from sin. Since we are sinners we are actually an enemy of God and lame in our spiritual ability to save ourselves. God saves those like Mephibosheth that do not rely on their own reasources but trust in God's covenant with us.
September 2, 2007 - Table Manners
Jesus uses the table fellowship to tell us to do two things: Carefully and humbly choose your own seat (he who exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted) and make a space for others at the table. Jesus frees us from competition and from making a name for ourselves. Our name comes from the one who saves us.
