The Scribes and Pharisees practiced a religion based upon the following of even the smallest regulation which they created by the hundreds. Their hatred of Jesus was in part due to His consistent teaching and life that lived perfectly into His Fathers Word and not theirs. This challanged their authority and uncovered their piety for what it really was - hypocritical.

I'll Be Happy...When I've Done Enough
We all have resumes. What are resumes for? They say to companies and schools, "Here is why you should let me in." The purpose of a resume is to have us go from the outside to being on the inside. The thing is, we all have a resume with God. We have a spiritual resume, filled with accomplishments and works - reasons why God should let us "in." Here, Paul had the best resume possible, and yet he says in the gospel this is all rubbish. What would cause Paul to say something like that? Find out as we study this great passage.

Why the Law?
The Law has a purpose, it is not meant to be overlooked or just obeyed. The Law's purpose is to lead us to Christ. It accomplishes this as it exposes all of our shortcomings and offers no way for us to hide. It is the ruthless coming to terms with our own sinfulness. This is the place where we can turn to Christ.
