Set in Stone: What Do We Do with the Ten Commandments? Part 9
The ninth commandment is not only about telling the truth, but also guides the way we speak about others.
Lies, Part 8: If It Feels Right, It Can't Be Wrong
Part 8 of the series reveals that we can't always trust our experience or our conscience to guide us to truth
Breaking Free of the Lie
It matters what you believe, especially what you believe about yourself. Romans 1:25 is so key to understanding this truth. What you believe is what & how you will live your life. This belief system will affect every other aspect of your life, good or bad. We battle with a constant stronghold in our lives from birth until we die...it is the lie of the adversary that we aren't good enough. Whether you know it or not, your mind can tell you a lie or truth. You must confront the lie, resist it, and get the Truth in you.
Exchanging Lies for Truth
The problem with Israel is our own, it is the gap between what we believe in theory and what we believe in practice. I may agree that God is sovereign (theoretical belief), but slip into deep anxiety when I am afraid or out of control (functional disbelief). What it means to grow in grace is to see the gap narrowed between what I confess to be truth and what I functionally believe in the moment. If it’s true that behind every sin is a lie, we are able to find a road out of the rut of despair and the feeling that our emotions and actions are inevitable. Nehemiah is helping us to see the path of hope in hopelessness, joy in the midst of suffering, and courage to fight our shame and disbelief.

The Suffering of The Mission and The Call To Perseverance
This message is a call for all of us to give our lives to loving God with all our hearts and proclaim his beauty to our neighbors. It is a call that when heeded leads inevitably to weariness, discouragement and suffering. In the midst of our inevitable suffering comes the subtle temptation of Satan to return to a more comfortable life. This message is a call to fight that temptation with a vision of the glory of God that is more beautiful than the empty comforts of this world. It is a call to set our eyes upon our savior who gave up the comforts of heaven and earth to be rejected, suffer, and die for us. As we do this we will find that suffering on mission is far more satisfying then the comforts of this world.
Facade
A.W. Tozer, in his book, The Pursuit of God shared this prayer: "Lord, I would trust You completely; I would be altogether Yours; I would exalt You above all. I desire that I may feel no sense of possessing anything outside of You. I want constantly to be aware of Your overshadowing Presence and to hear Your speaking Voice. I long to live in restful sincerity of heart. I want to live so fully in the Spirit that all my thought may be as sweet incense ascending to You and every act of my life may be an act of worship. Therefore I pray in the words of Your great servant of old, ‘I beseech You so for to cleanse the intent of mine heart with the unspeakable gift of Your grace, that I may perfectly love You and worthily praise You.’ And all this I conï¬ dently believe You will grant me through the merits of Jesus Christ Your Son. Amen." Key Passage: Matthew 5:33-37

God's Top Ten list-Truth or consequences: You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Risk of the Mission
Have you become accustomed to the brokenness in your life and the lives around you? Have you guarded your heart by keeping your distance? Have you protected yourself by having such meager expectations for God? Have you said things like, “If you don’t expect anything, you won’t be disappointed?†Can you see how hopeless and devastating it is to expect so little of such a large God. He is a big God. We need to come to Him with all our needs, especially big ones!
Our Sinful Tongues
This sermon takes a look at what God's Word says about one of our most sinful body parts - Our tongues. It examines 10 different ways we sin with our tongues.
