SUBMISSION TO GOVERNING AUTHORITIES: AND OUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER (Message #25 * Romans 13:1-14) 05-19-2013
1. Obey Our Governing Authorities ● vs1-2 in submission to God: for all authority is established by Him ● vs2-4 as God’s servants for our good: for the rebellious will be punished ● vs5-7 for the sake of conscience: so be obedient and honorable in all things 2. Love Each Other ● vs8-10 for Love fulfills the law: so love your neighbor as yourself ● vs11-14 for Salvation is drawing near: so surrender to Christ’s lordship
Summer is over. Time has run out. Was there something you wish that you had done when you had the chance? Someday time will run out for all of us. How should we live in the meantime? Paul says, "love one another." Leave no deed of love undone, no word of love unsaid.
In this familiar passage of the Good Samaritan, Jesus addresses the question "Who is My Neighbor?" Jesus' reply is not "which one is my neighbor" but "which one will you be like: the Samaritan or the Pharisee."
God calls his people to influence the world by loving and serving those who do not yet trust in Jesus. In other words, he wants each of us to be what we call a “Gospel Pace-Setter” who: 1) preaches the gospel to ourselves, 2) loves our neighbors, and 3) prays it forward.
What does it mean to put on the Lord Jesus Christ?
