Readings on Christmas Eve
Our kids get excited because they're getting presents on Jesus' birthday. Doesn't that seem backwards? Shouldn't we be bringing gifts, rather than receiving them. But the Magi weren't bringing birthday gifts to the Christ child. Years after Jesus' birth, the Magi seek Him out, prostrate themselves and present their offerings, their tangible acts of worship. The great gift of Christmas is Christ himself.

God Connoisseurs
At The Oaks, we believe that all of life is worship. King Herod was a man who worshiped himself and his own rule above all else. Matthew contrasts Herod with a mysterious group of men called "The Magi". These men rolled into town and had a life-transforming encounter with the one true God, and were transformed. Pastor Kevin connects what we can learn about worship from both parties, and what true transformation looks like.

First to Worship
How do you respond when your enemies fall in worship before the Lord? That question might sound like a hypothetical debate for us today, but for the original readers of Matthew’s gospel account they had to face it head on. The very first people to engage in formal worship of the newborn king were from “the east.” We might call them the “Babylonian worship team.” The enemies and oppressors of the Jews were on their face in worship. Wow! What a paradigm shift! Key Passages: Matthew 2:1 & Isaiah 49:6
