Sermons About Manger
The Good News of Christmas (AM)
While our modern culture celebrates Christmas with decorations, songs, and gifts, many Christians take time to remember the “reason for the season”. Beyond a superficial understanding that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday, we must dig deeper into the ultimate consequences of Christ’s birth.

Unexpected Event
In the 3rd week of CityView's 2007 Advent series, we celebrate the event of Jesus' birth in music. During the short sermon, we take a look at the unexpected event of Jesus' birth and why--when contrasted with John's birth--many people missed this holy occasion.

God Connoisseurs
At The Oaks, we believe that all of life is worship. King Herod was a man who worshiped himself and his own rule above all else. Matthew contrasts Herod with a mysterious group of men called "The Magi". These men rolled into town and had a life-transforming encounter with the one true God, and were transformed. Pastor Kevin connects what we can learn about worship from both parties, and what true transformation looks like.

The Reality of Rejoicing
On this Third Sunday of Advent we pay particular attention to the shepherds whom God Himself chose to be the first to hear of the birth of the Promised King. It was to these, whose job it was to raise and guard the Temple lambs, that the invitation first came to worship the Lamb of God. They were the first to experience the reality that the promise of a Savior had been fulfilled.

The Back Story
The Back Story of The Story provides context and background information regarding the main character. In this study of Luke 2 and the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, we see the Shepherds who receive a visitation by angel and the heavenly host announcing the birth of Jesus, Savior, Messiah, and Lord. The sign they were given was that they would find a baby wrapped in cloths, laying in a manger. But this was no ordinary manger. According to tradition, the manger was actually a feeding trough that was hewn out of rock. And the stable was actually a cave. This sign where the shepherds would find the newborn baby Jesus was secluded, private, and a foreshadowing of the purpose Jesus was born. Because some 30-plus years later, Jesus would again be wrapped in cloths and laid in a cave. That cave was his tomb. And the death that He died would be to take away the sins of the world.

Meet Mary, the Mother of Jesus
Time and again, we all encounter true seekers. These are people who have some serious questions about God, Jesus, or Christianity, and they are seeking some factual answers. I believe with all my heart that Christians need not to be timid in inviting these kinds of people to consider some of the evidences that God himself has provided in order to bring enlightenment to them.

Why A Manger - Christmas Eve
Did Christmas really begin with the manger, forever frozen in time some 2000 years ago? In fact, the stable is only the culminating instant in a fascinating plan unfolding thousands of years before the Star of Bethlehem appeared. It all began in a garden . . .
