Brandon Capuano-Gospel Centered Change
As the New Year hits, so do commitments and resolutions. But all of this desire for change is a bankrupt desire for change if it is not centered on the Gospel. Heavily influenced by the book "How People Change" by Timothy Lane and Paul David Tripp, we take a look at what change looks like based on Gospel thinking. If we rely upon ourselves to change, we are going to put ourselves up on a spiritual treadmill: we will run and run and run but go nowhere at all. But if we rely on the work of Jesus Christ to lead us in our change, we will truly become conformed to His image. We must seek to repent of the idols of our hearts, pursuing what we desire until we destroy ourselves, and instead pursue Christ.
Life-giving Bread for You
LIFE-GIVING BREAD FOR YOU Introduction: One of life’s enjoyments to me is eating bread. I really enjoyed it during my childhood years. It tasted especially good, when I put two slices of bread together with peanut butter and jelly in between. Of lately, I have grown accustomed to having fresh baked bread served on a regular basis at the home where I am residing. It tastes great. There’s only one problem. After the family has devoured the bread, there is a need for more. Thus, there doesn’t seem to be a way to permanently satisfy this hunger for fresh-baked bread. The reality is bread will never fully satisfy our hunger. However, there is bread that satisfies which God has provided for everyone who will accept it. Our text for today will help us to clearly understand the nature of this bread. Our text for today comes from John 6:30-50. If you have your Bible, please turn there with me. Background thought: As we continue to walk through the Gospel of John together, we see that John, in various ways, continues to make his case to his reading audience that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah for all who will believe. As we have observed in the past two weeks, Jesus had provided bread for a group of more than 5000 people through a miracle, and we observed the contrast between a true and false disciple. This leads us into our discussion for today, the Bread of Life. The title of our message today is “Life-Giving Bread for You.” Let’s read our text together. Text: John 6:30-50
