Afraid of Jesus?
I‟d like to suggest to you that we don‟t often think of being afraid of Jesus, but we really should because for many people in the Bible an encounter with Jesus created fear – and rightly so. We get a clear taste of this in Matthew 8:28-9:8. Jesus does a lot of good in this passage, but none of it is safe. In fact, Jesus‟ actions make many people afraid, and I‟d like to see why. There are three different reasons why people are afraid of Jesus, and I hope to show you that if you don’t know Jesus then you have reason to be afraid.

Pt. 4, Coming Clean: The Housecleaning Choice
This weekend Pastor Jeremy talked about being real rather than being religious. He refers to Matthew 5:8. To begin our spiritual housecleaning we need to recognize our weakness and reach out to God for his strength. He asks that we are pure and honest; not perfect! By being in God's word, praying, walking with the Holy Spirit and recognizing our weakness we can be close to God.

Full-throttle Following
Our text this morning introduces us to another and very important subject: discipleship. Now the word discipleship begs a number of questions. What does it mean to follow Jesus? Who is a true follower? What do real disciples look like? What does discipleship involve? What does it cost?

Jesus Christ & The Word, Pt. 4 (Matthew 5:19)
One of the chief marks of our fallenness is our rebellion to authority. Men want to be free, autonomous, our own person, follow own agenda, pursue own goals. The idol of American culture is individuality. Fallen man kicks at authority, because *Authority assumes *Accountability. Generally people are fine talking about God in generic terms, but when the issue of His absolute authority comes up - things change. Jesus, in 5:17-20, in absolutely unequivocal terms is establishing the absolute authority of the Word of God and His own Person. In verses 17-18, we have seen that Jesus establishes the authority of the Word in three ways: (1) Stands in judgment of false religion (2) It is fulfilled in the Messiah (3) It is permanent Now, 19-20, Jesus will establish the authority of the Word by declaring our accountability to it: (1) Accountable to its prescriptions (2) Accountable to its Righteousness.

Pt. 1, Admitting Need: The Reality Choice
In this message Pastor Jeremy talks about being poor in spirit. He explains how being proud will prevent us from healing from out troubles. We cannot change things on our own. We need to admit we have problems, ask God for help AND ask God for help.

Marginalized No More
This section of Matthew is all about following Jesus. Why should you follow Him? What kind of authority does he really have? And what does following him look like? When you first read our text you might think that it is just a record of three healings that Jesus performed. But there is so much more. To understand our text, you need to keep two thoughts in mind: healings are a platform to tell us about Jesus, and His healings were focused on the marginalized.
