Sermons About Maturity
You Do Not Have To Be An Example
If there is anything that makes us squirm, it is the Bibles admonition to be examples. Very few of us are comfortable with that because we have so many human failings. Many times, we can get by very well without being examples, but there is one place where we cannot. We are examples to our children whether we want to be or not. If you have failed in this, fear not. The Bible offers hope. Key Verses:1Tim 4:12, Titus 2:7, 1Cor 11:1, Matt 5:48, Php 3:10-14, John 15:1-4, 2Cor 7: 6-11

Growing Up is Hard to Do
Spiritual maturity is not easy to attain, but God remains faitful even when we do not.

Growing in Grace
There must be something more. This feeling of emptiness has been the excuse for more than one person to despair and give up on God. This happens to anyone who is not experiencing spiritual growth over time. The "something more" is found in a child like seeking of the Lord daily. A child will watch their parents to see what they do. Then the child will try to do what they have seen in order to be like their parents.

Grow Up! (Philippians 3:12-4:1)
Why are Christians often accused of hypocrisy? Could it be because American evangelicals are often hypocritical – claiming to believe something that they don’t actually live out? In this sermon, we will look at the damage caused by Christians that claim to follow Christ but live petty, self-centered lives and what we can do to grow beyond spiritual childhood.

Calling Out Our Best
If spiritual maturity is the goal for every follower of Christ, (and it is!) then spiritual discipline and mentorship must be required. Most of us would not be who we were today without a full complement of people who have poured into our lives. Parents, friends, teachers, coaches, mentors and others have poked and prodded us along the way – encouraged us to be or to become the very best we can be. In the spiritual realm we are told that God gives these gifts of “poking and prodding” as well. He intentionally sends into our lives those people who will help call out the very best in us. The questions we’re left with: Will we respond to the voice of God through these people? Will we allow God to use us like this in someone else’s life? Key Passage: Ephesians 4:11-13

The Marks of Spiritual Maturity
Part 8 "The Mark Of Spiritual Maturity" Romans 1:14-16 Mark #1 I am concerned about the people of the world. My concern: * Must be ever-present. * Can't be for the elite alone. * Isn't based on education. * Must be for all ethnic groups. Mark #2 I am committed to proclaim the gospel to the world. My commitment involves: * Knowing the part I play. * Knowing the place I am to serve. * Knowing the message I am to preach. Mark #3 I am confident in what the gospel has promised. The gospel promises to: * Be powerful. * Accomplish God's purposes. * To be given plentifully. * According to God's plan.

A Spiritual Wake Up Call 2
What we have in our text is two key ingredients in the Christian life that will move us on to maturity. Last week we saw the first which was this point. 1. As believers we should learn obedience through what we suffer. (5:11-14) I showed you the connection of chapter 5:8-9 with verse 11 with the Greek word akouw. Christ learned obedience through what he suffered and because of this became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him. The problem was that the readers of this letter according to verse 11 had become dull of hearing. The word akouw which is the root word for the words obedience in verse 8, obey in verse 9, and hearing in verse 11 is used as a play on words to catch our attention. If the hearing of the people had grown dull, then so had their obedience. The trials and persecution should have pressed them on to maturity by pushing them toward Christ as their great High Priest but instead had driven them toward disobedience and possible apostasy. This morning I want you to see the second point. That is: 2. As believers we should learn perseverance through the beauty of our faith. (6:1-12)

A Spiritual Wake Up Call
Purpose So the purpose for this passage is to press on the readers and on us today the need to move on toward Christian maturity. And that is my purpose as I preach this text. PNP So, after that lengthy introduction, this morning from our text I want you to see the first of two key ingredients in the Christian life that will move us on to maturity. Let me give you both and where they come from and then we will focus this morning on the first. 1. As believers we should learn obedience through what we suffer. (5:11-14)

A More Excellent Way
David preaches from the classic chapter on love, 1 Corinthians 13, as the necessary foundation for our church. Love should be the context we use our gifts in, and the standard is the biblical love Paul describes so eloquently throughout the chapter.

The Church (Part 4)
Adam presents the need to examine spiritual maturity closely. The church must be able to speak the truth in love and build itself up if it is ever to mature as a body.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
How critical is it that we weed out all the evil in the world around us? So much of the political agenda of the evangelical church seems to be the opposition of evil. This is not all bad, but should it be our main agenda? Jesus seems to calm his disciples' fears about all the evil in the world by simply acknowledging that the weeds grow alongside the wheat. The prudent farmer doesn't worry about ripping out the weeds - but about growing healthy wheat. On the harvest day, the good and bad will be separated. In the meanwhile, our focus is to be on growing the good! Key Passage: Matthew 13:24-30, 47-50

Beyond ABC's
In this series, we've talked about the "glory" for which we were created. We get a glimpse of it in the opening pages of Genesis and in the final Revelation of John. We were created to rule and to reign along side Jesus! But the path to greatness in the kingdom of God is a path of servant hood and perseverance. It's a path that many miss. As we dive into the most controversial text in Hebrews, I believe it is this inheritance of ruling with Christ that we are in danger of missing. Are you ready to reign? Key Passage: Hebrews 5:11 - 6:12

The Influential Church
"We should not underestimate the significance of the small group of people who have a new vision of a just and gentle world. The quality [or the standards] of a culture can be changed when 2 percent of its people have a new vision." Robert Bellah – Sociologist

God says a big part of our faith journey is not to simply travel, but to mature. James doesn’t pull any punches in the first part of his mini instruction book on Christian living. He guarantees that we will have trials in the Christian life; but we have a powerful ally in the person of Christ, who is supernaturally working in our lives to make each trial and test count for His glory and toward our spiritual maturity.
