Christians Are Compelled to Act
There is no such thing as an inactive Christian. Having accepted and received God's abundant mercy and grace is what compels one to do good works. Instead of just being a spectator or attender, a Christian is an active member of the Body of Christ. A life of service and acts of compassion is a love response to God's passionate love for us.

Is that what membership is all about? Is it us, as a denomination or a local church, showing by our numbers that we are superior to the church down the street? It could be. We need to be careful in our discussions on membership. We must be biblical, and not merely pragmatic or traditional, or we could in up with something that looks more like the worship of numbers than a house built to worship the Lord.

Membership is a bond with a body of believers. Are you bound to them? Are you serving them? Are you walking with them? The church is the bride of Christ. You cannot love him and not love her. Can you, with an honest heart, sing and say: “I love Thy Church, O God”? And will you commit to doing all that love entails?
