Sermons About Mess
A Big Mess
Only the Lord can be in the business of bringing good out of evil, blessing generation after generation. The actions of David and his pursuit of Bathsheba and all the events that surrounded this big mess are one of the key stories of redemption in Scripture. Sometimes the enemy tricks us into thinking that the pain and mess of our lives are beyond repair - beyond help. We see ourselves as a mess, chaotic and without beauty. But that's not the way God sees us. In His mercy, His agenda is one of redemption and restoration - no matter who we are. He is the star breathing God, but He is also the author and artist of our lives, and the minute not only matters to Him - from the smallest cell to the largest galaxies - He cares for it all. Key Passage: Psalm 51

God's Gifts at Christmas: Part 1 Messy Gift Wrapping
God’s Gifts At Christmas Part 1: Messy Gift Wrapping Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Romans 7:15-19 Wrapping Paper is Not the Gift—Holiness is the Gift! . . . we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:10 And we . . . are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 Misunderstanding Messy Gift Wrapping • Spiritual Apathy • Spiritual Performance “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.†Matthew 23:2-3 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.†Matthew 23:27-28 Unwrapping the Beautiful Mess 1. Thank God that you’re in PROCESS Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 2. Trust God in your UNFINISHEDNESS . . . being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 3. Fellowship of Joy: A Study in Philippians
I am excited to begin this short letter of Paul to the Philippian (Macedonian) church. This church is exemplary of the reality of the church of Jesus Christ. It is a “Beautiful Mess!†This is a church that Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 as an incredibly giving church, who desired to always “Participate in the gospel†(Philippians 1:5), yet they struggled with unity and humility (see Philippians 2:1-4; 4:1-3). There is no “Perfect†church.
