Sermons About Messiah
Gospel of John: Your Not Too Stinky for Jesus (John 11:28-44)
in this final messianic sign, Jesus shows both his compassion and authority in weeping over the death of Lazarus and resurrecting him after he has been dead four days. Jesus enters our sorrow, grieves with us and gives us life. Even if we think we are too dead, too stinky, too dirty.

On That Day, I Will Protect Jerusalem - Zechariah 12
Zechariah, chapter 12, signals the prophet's final "burden" of the Lord. It is about a future "Day" when the Lord will protect and restore His covenant people at Jerusalem. There are two objectives for this message: A preacher's burden to teach Bible readers what they should anticipate when reading the prophetic sections of the Old Testament (and beyond). The second, is the prophet's burden to move a remnant people to understand that God's victory, founded upon grace and mercy, will be personally understood through mourning and bitterness over a "firstborn" who has been "pierced!"

Prisoners of Hope - Zechariah 9,10
9 out of 10 scholars agree: Zechariah is a tough book to interpret! But what do we find there? The classic Old Testament prophetic motifs and a clear explanation of the Jewish Eschatological Hope. But this hope exceeds the Hope of the enemies of Israel being judged... Zechariah says that these enemies will be CONVERTED by a donkey riding Messiah who will destroy the military might of Israel and proclaim, "Peace to the nations." Therefore, those of us still engaged in a spiritual battle should remember that we are prisoners of Hope! (And this hope will not disappoint!)

Sovereign Rule - Ezra 1
The beginning of our sermon series, "The Eternal Remnant," begins with the book of Ezra. From here we will cover other important Bible books of this period. The action begins when God stirs the spirit of His Messiah... Cyrus, King of Persia (Is. 45:1). Cyrus is a pagan world ruler without any (or very limited) knowledge of the true God. He will conform to the decrees of salvation history in order to protect a remnant of God's people. Therefore, what might God be doing with the world rulers of OUR DAY? Could it be that God is still using world rulers to accomplish His sovereign rule? (A facinating example of this is included). This recording, on May 14, 2009, was for the "His Men" group of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Orange, the original message (not recorded) was presented at Communion Presbyterian Church (ARP) of Irvine on April 26, 2009.

Easter - The Way of the Resurrection
When the women went to the tomb to treat Jesus' body with spices, they had certain expectations about their Lord: they expected Him to be dead, His body to be in the tomb. How surprised they were! We often have expectations of Jesus that He loves to dash. We also depend on "Bail-me-out" Jesus when we reap the consequences of poor choices, or we look to "Safe" Jesus and strip Him of His divinity. Listen to Pastor Tim Kelly's special Easter message on the miracle of Christ's Resurrection.

The Customizable Christ?
Before Jesus was crucified, the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" Judging from his reaction, the high priest didn't really want to know the answer.
