Sermons About Mission
Philosophy
The Ridge Church lives to glorify God – loving Jesus, loving people and seeing lives transformed to live for Jesus. We have been called to live this out globally and locally (the mission) and we have essential beliefs as we move down the highway of life, that we hold dear to, so we do not get off focus and fall away. To help us stay focused and on mission we must have a system of values and principles by which we live and function by as a church, a philosophy - in ministry it is important to have the right mindset and attitude toward how things should be done.

Unlikely Witnesses
When Jesus left the earth he left behind a small group of unlikely witnesses with the daunting task of spreading his message to the ends of the earth. Since then he has added many more people to his team of unlikely witnesses. People like us. Listen in as we open the book of Acts to learn how and why he would choose people like us as his witnesses.

Mission
As a church we have an aim (focus) to live for the glory of God by loving Jesus, loving people and seeing lives transformed to live for Jesus. The movement of this aim is called mission. It is putting into action our focus. We believe as a church we are to be intentionally, strategically engaged globally and locally simultaneously.

Scattered for Mission
After Stephen's murder, the church scattered. Satan thought a major victory had been won, but God had other plans. As the church was scattered, ordinary men and women shared about Jesus. What does it mean for you and I to be missionaries today? What does it mean for us as a church?

Prayer and the Gospel
As we finish our discussion on the mission of the Vintage Faith Community, we must conclude with the humble confession that we cannot do this on our own. As we survey the book of Acts and read about how God sent his church on mission, spreading the joy of salvation in Jesus, we immediately recognize that it was a supernatural work. Tonight we talk about the kind of praying that energized the early church into this mission.

Mission - Sowing with tears, reaping with joy
Christians are called to spread the Gospel both within their home town, the region and beyond - not in sequence, but all at once. Sowing the seed of the Gospel can be costly (tears), but the harvest (salvation) brings joy. Practical examples are offered from experience of mission to Novosibirsk in Siberia with Operation Mobilisation (OM).

The Main Mission Of The Church
In Luke 24:36-53, Luke recorded the FIVE WAYS Jesus motivated and equipped His disciples to carry on His mission after He left. 1. He convinced them He was real (vv. 36-43) 2. He clarified their message and mission (vv. 44-47) 3. He commissioned them for their mission (v. 48) 4. He covenanted to empower them for their mission (v. 49) 5. He consecrated them for their mission (vv. 50-53)

Joy in the Gospel
Over the next 3 Sundays, we'll be looking at our mission in this great city. Our goal is not simply to be a great church, but to help build a great city full of joy in Jesus. In tonight's message, we look at the Gospel itself and ask how the preaching of the gospel can result in great joy in Spokane.

Collateral Damage
We like to think that we have the freedom to do as we please, as long as we're not hurting other people. What we often don't realize is that by living for ourselves we are inevitably hurting other people. Listen in as we look at the book of Judges and see how we often unknowingly do harm to others.

Gideon: Finding God’s Will (Judges 6:36-40)

Samson: Strength Out Of Weakness (Judges 16:18-30)
Samson was a strong “man’s man” who frequently acted like a hot-headed gangster. It is not, however, in Samson’s strength that we see God’s greatest victory, but in Samson’s moment of greatest weakness. In this sermon, we see that finding our mission and calling will mean leaning into our weakness and leading with the “fierce meekness” brought about by the Gospel.

Self-Service
Samson is one of the most famous of the Biblical characters. But he is also one of the more misunderstood. What does the Bible tell us about Samson? And what are we supposed to learn from his story? Listen in as we find ourselves in Samson's story and are challenged to respond.

Kingdom Practice: A Kingdom Mission
Doctor Luke has so clearly laid out in chapter 18 the two options in trying to find acceptance before God. It's either a self-righteous performing or a desperate dependence. It is those who know how needy they are for the grace of God that He delights in and takes the initiative to save. Not only is this the posture of life in the kingdom, but this too is the mission of the Kingdom, desperate sinners who know they are glorying in a merciful Savior in front of other needy sinners.

Paul's Farewell Speech - more than just a long goodbye!
In his farewell address on January 11, 1989 just before he left office, President Ronald Reagan stated he was most proud of the resurgence of national pride which he called “the new patriotism”. But at the same time he voiced concern. America was on the edge of the 90s, the culture was changing. Children being raised at that time were not being taught what it means to be American. His overarching concern was that the future generations of America would forget their roots and America would lose its historical identity and its national spirit. Paul's address to the Ephesian Elders reads much the same and has similar concerns. He gives an account of his conduct, sacrifices and commitments and challenges them to carry on the very same goals that he and the other Apostles received from the Lord Jesus Christ. And he warns them what is at stake. Unless they protect what has been entrusted to them, their ability to continue the work Jesus began will be undermined.

I Will Not Deny You!
Simon was Jesus' first disciple. Jesus renamed him Peter, which meant, "the rock." He was the ringleader amongst the disciples, the spokesman, and he functions in Mark's gospel as the source for most of the content. In tonight's passage, Peter fails Jesus, denying him three times and cursing the Master he so passionately confesses to love. So how did Peter go from failing Jesus to being the leader of God's church?

Particular Love
Jesus stepped off His throne in Heaven to be born in a smelly barn in Bethlehem to later leave Judea to go into Samaria to save one lost woman at a well. We call this story 'The woman at the well'. I call it Particular Love. If you are a believer in Jesus, he came to you personally and powerfully and rescued you. We love Him BECAUSE He FIRST loved us.
