Christian's Witness to the World, Pt. 2 (Matthew 5:14-16)
Christians are left in this world for one primary purpose: to be witnesses to the gospel of Jesus Christ. (possibly note challenge of bad witnesses) Last week we noted the Christian’s witnesses as salt - witness through the character and purity of life. This is week the Lord compares the church to light, which reveals by dispelling darkness. Christian are commended to the obedience and proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lost in Translation
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "What you do speaks so loudly, I cannot hear what you say." It is equally true that what we don’t do is so deafening that no one wants to listen to what we have to say. If we want to speak the gospel, we must set aside our own expectations of rights and entitlement and serve others in a self-sacrificing language that is understood by every culture: we must quit talking at people in a language they don’t understand, and begin showing them what the gospel means.

The Gospel is...
The goal of the Gospel is to create a Christ-treasuring community that is empowered by the Gospel for purpose of mission together. It is how God has chosen to show off His glory and make His grace known to our hurting and broken world. Lets look at the gospel and then start to talk about it’s implications for our shared lives. “Jesus Christ, God’s promised Rescuer and Ruler, lived our life, died our death and rose again in triumphant vindication as the first fruits of the new creation to bring forgiven sinners together under His gracious reign as His Kingdom People.”
