This is the last sermon in our vision series entitled, "The Way Forward". For this twelfth and last sermon we'll look at the Great Commission. In it, Jesus is calling the church and all of her individual members to be missionaries to the communities that God has placed them in.

The Church in Smyrna: Revelation 2:8
The church in Smyrna was made up of poor people who had endured many hardships. Jesus, the First and the Last, who defeated death, knows their tribulation, poverty, and the slander from the Jews that they have endured. Jesus tells them that he hears them, and yet they continue suffering. Not only does he call the church to not be afraid, he calls them to be faithful by treasuring him above all else, even to the point of death. He promises that the sufferings we experience right now, no matter how heavy they are, will one day seem light and momentary compared to the glory that he holds in store for his people. He suffered to end our suffering. He suffered so that no matter how much we have suffered at death, it is over. We will have an eternity with him.

Living a Life of Gospel Intentionality
Kaleo SDSU is taking a couple weeks to explore what it means and what it practically looks like to be intentional with the gospel through all of life. We will be investigating the book of Mark for insight into how Jesus brought the gospel to every situation and trained his disciples to do the same. We are called not to separate our life into religious, pagan, hobby, service, parenting, work and gospel intentionality but is instead a life that sees the gospel as the motivation and center of all we do.

Identities: Missionaries
We are sent by God to restore all things to himself. God sent his son, Jesus, to Earth to take on human form and live within the culture. He worked, ate and interacted among the people; living in such a way that those around him could see and experience what God was truly like. Jesus came so that all people, places and things could be restored to a right relationship with God. In the same way, we believe we are missionaries sent into our culture to restore all things to God through Jesus. We live this out as part of a missional community. (John 1:14; 20:21; Colossians 1:19; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
