A Surprising Hope
As we round the bend and begin to head toward the end of this amazing letter, we’ll be using our time to talk practically about how to live the Identities of Family, Missionaries, and Servants together. Peter has woven these three themes together throughout his letter, urging these chosen and scattered exiles to live as God’s Family, sent throughout the Roman Empire to faithfully witness to a suffering and resurrected Messiah, both in deed and in word. In this section Peter challenges Christians to be the Church and to live faithfully for Christ. Peter concludes this section with the same great words of hope and encouragement that he has woven throughout this letter! He recognizes that living for Jesus’ mission involves suffering and sacrifice, so he points us again to Jesus. Jesus died for us. He bled for us. He went all the way down for us, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, with all things subject to him. Because of Jesus’ great victory, we can embrace sacrifice today, knowing that we belong to Jesus and will one day be with him! Come listen and be encouraged by Steve to live our lives so that the world would question our actions.

Creation Destroyed in Judgment - Genesis 7:1-24
Often when a danger is around for a long time we start to live as if the danger does not exist. That is no more true than in terms of the final judgment. The flood of the world is a reminder of the fact that God will judge wickedness and evil, and at the same time it points us to the hope God provides.

Remembrance of Things to Come
The Hebrew scriptures during Lent this year focus on the faithfulness of God, who makes covenant with us. Today, we recall that God, distressed over the sinfulness of humankind, begins to regret creating it, and determines to destroy the earth and most of its people and even its animals. Only Noah and his family, and a pair of each kind of animal, will be saved to populate the world over again. It rained for 40 days, and the floodwaters covered the earth for 150 days. At the end of it, only those who were taken into the ark Noah built at God’s command are left alive.

Divine Warrior
What does it mean to consider that our sin fills God’s heart not with anger, but with the pain of grief? We worship a God who has hung up his defensive weapon and made himself vulnerable – exposed himself to injury - a God who is willing to risk and suffer pain and grief in himself before he would hurt us
