Throughout October and November we will be studying the book of Nehemiah in a series called "Nehemiah: Becoming a Person of ______." This series will look at different characteristics exemplified by Nehemiah as he rebuilt Jerusalem's walls following the Israelites' Babylonian Exile. This week, Pastor Dave Robinson teaches about becoming a person of prayer. After learning about the fall of Jerusalem's walls, Nehemiah spends four months praying. Studying his example we can learn characteristics of God-glorifying intercessory prayer.

Although Jerusalem's walls had been broken down for nearly 150 years by the time Nehemiah heard the news, his passionate reaction and subsequent prayer set the stage for significant action. Nehemiah's example should challenge us to be people of passion who stand in the gap of problems that exist in the world today.

This week Dave Robinson teaches about becoming a person of burden. Before Nehemiah acted, he allowed God to burden him with a need: the destroyed walls and burned gates of Jerusalem. Studying Nehemiah's example, Dave asks: "what makes you weep and pound the table?" or, "what burden or problem is yours to help solve?"
