Sermons About Paradise
In the Beginning, Part 2
We all want to be rescued. It is our sin that we need rescued from and the only thing that rescues us is dwelling with God! He has made us a promise that He is our God, we are His people and that He will dwell with us! Our lives are dead, formless, and void. Let us seek our dwelling place with God and live the life we were created for!

How God Reveals Himself
Why do you ask my name?, the Angel of the Lord replied, it is too wonderful for you to understand. Judges 13:16 As we mentioned last week, the Bible is not simply a book, it is a sacred library with a God-designed unity. Its 66 books were written over 60 generations by 40 authors from all walks of life, and it presents a unified picture of God’s plan and purpose for our world. As we read through the Bible in 90 Days we have that rare privilege of overview. We began by looking at paradise and paradise lost. Last week we looked at the promise of a paradise restored which God made through His covenants. Today in the Word we will focus on the self revelation of God especially as he reveals his name to his people. Who is he? How does He reveal himself over time? What shall we do with His name?

Paradise Promised - Covenants in the Scriptures
Teachers of Bible study and reading repeatedly stress three things crucial to the art of mining the Scriptures--context, context, and context. Among other things, context involves getting into the heads (the way of life, the thinking patterns, the culture) of the original author and intended recipients of the Scriptural text. Twenty-first century America is a far cry from the ancient Near East of Abraham's day, and for that reason one of the Bible's major unifying themes may elude us. That theme is "covenant." Unlike today, where the idea of covenant is relegated to a few cultural practices (such as marriage), covenant was a central component of society, both on individual and global levels. Therefore, when the early Hebrews read and heard of "covenant" in their Scriptures, they would have given it more than a passing nod (as we so often do). If you search for the term "covenant" throughout the Scriptures, you won't find all that many instances. Yet today we'll learn that this concept is one of the best ways to understand the Bible as one book--a single story, an over-arching meta-narrative. In fact, God's whole plan of fixing this broken world can rightly be summed up in that one word. Today's message may very well reorient your whole perspective of the Bible!

King of the Wild Frontier
A number of celebrities and lesser knowns threatened (promised?) to leave the United States if George W. Bush was reelected president in 2004. But before Bush, there was Martin Van Buren, and before today’s political malcontents, there was Davy Crockett (1786–1836), “king of the wild frontier†as the popular 1955 politically incorrect “Ballad of Davy Crockett†described him. In a letter written to Charles Shultz dated December 25, 1834, Crockett complains about Andrew Jackson’s influence over American voters. He describes them as “Volunteer Slaves†and declares his plan to leave the United States and move to Texas if Martin Van Buren, Jackson’s vice-president, is elected to office.
