Sunday Sermon for Week 33-09
The expression about equipping God’s people is of far reaching significance for any true understanding of Christian ministry. The New Testament envisions ministry not a prerogative of the clerical elite, but as a privileged calling of all the people of God. Paul envisions a church dynamically and spiritually vibrant as an every member equipped and functional organic community under the Lordship of the only real Pastor the Load Jesus Christ Himself. The people of the church, the ministry of the church, everything is held together by Jesus.

Pastor Training
The Gwin Turner Pastor Training Sessions with speaker Christopher Lewton: Jesus defeated the devil in the Temptation [Matthew 4:1-1l], in His life [John 14:30], and in His death on the cross [Revelation 1:18]. When He rose from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of the Father, He stripped the demons of their power [Colossians 2:14-15]. In His death and resurrection Jesus forever destroyed the devil’s power over us [Hebrews 2:14-15]. He gave this authority over the devil to His disciples when He was here in earth, and we still have that authority today [Luke 10:17-21]. When we resist the devil he has to flee from us [James 4:7].

Pastoring When Suffering is Possible
With the prospect of suffering facing Christians, the role of the pastor takes on added significance. As the visible and vocal leader of the church, the pastor would no doubt increase his own chances of suffering. In addition to the prospect of personal suffering, the weight of leading a church of suffering people bears down on the pastor. As Peter begins his final section of the letter we call First Peter, he writes to his fellow pastors to encourage them to faithfully serve God by serving the church. He reminds them that the return of Christ will bring rewards to them for faithfully carrying out their duties. While most here this morning are not pastors, Peter’s teaching to pastors can help the church understand what to expect from your pastor, how to pray for your pastor, and how to help your pastor.

The Good Shepherd and The Bad Shepherds
Entering into John chapter 10 we find Jesus taking the Pharisees further in the discussion that ended in John 9 where He accused them of spiritual blindness. Here He calls them thieves and robbers and hirelings who do not care for the flock of God. It is a good discussion about what godly leaders are like and how they care for the flock. We can benefit from this wisdom and examine our own place in God's Sheepfold.

Leadership Matters
Leadership Matters. The church desperately needed Godly leadership in the first century and it desperately needs it now. The scripture is clear that we all are responsible to Jesus Christ but it is also clear that there are some who are to be responsible for others as well. This sermon is the Apostle Paul's charge to the young Pastor Timothy to find men who are qualified to lead the church. Elders in oversight and Deacons in service.
