Blessed Are the Peacemakers
Jesus said that the peacemakers are blessed because they will be called sons of God. To understand this statement we must understand the biblical idea of peace and the significance of the phrase "sons of God." Since God calls his Old Covenant people, Israel, his firstborn son and because the primary theme of Scripture is winning the conflict that he set in place against Satan and sin near the beginning of creation, we understand Jesus' statement in understanding the relationship between these two biblical emphases.

We've spent our summer weekends digging into the practical characteristics of this new life...and this weekend we deal with a deeply personal, proactive, and sometimes controversial role we are called to play...that of actively "making peace." When we look at Jesus' life, we recognize that He did not just stand by while the world spiraled out of control...He stepped in. He stood between opposing parties and stretched out His arms in reconciliation. He calls us to do the same! Key Passage: Matthew 5:9
