Breathing New Life into Our Bones
The Lord God breathed new life in the dry bones of his people in Ezekiel's vision of old. As we rejoice in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Lord God breathes new life into our bones today through that same Spirit who, as Luther says, "calls us and keeps us in this one truth faith." Although at times we, like Israel of old, feel like "our bones are dried up; our hope is lost, and we are cut off completely," the truth is that the Holy Spirit is more than able to revive us and raise us up to serve God's purpose in the world. Through God's life-giving Word and holy Sacrament, through the fellowship of believers, God is breathing new life into our bones today.

The Holy Spirit
“When are we gonna do the stuff?” “What stuff?” they wanted to know. He said, “You know....the stuff!” John Wimber (founder of the band “The Righteous Brothers”) was a fairly young Christian who had been reading in the Bible about all the conversions, healings, deliverances and other miracles. The following Sunday, when went to his neat tidy church, he started asking the church during coffee time, “when are we going to do the stuff, when are we going to start seeing, talking and celebrating with incredible passion, conversions, healings, deliverances and other miracles?

The Feast That Never Ended
There is something refreshing about going back to beginnings. In Acts chapters 1-7 we learn about the earliest days of the church. Chapter two is particularly striking as we learn about God’s gracious gift to the church, Peter’s proclamation of the gospel, and for what the early church was known. Today in the Word, we will consider the event of Pentecost, Peter’s important explanation about what God was doing. As you listen to the reading and hear the Word explained today, ask God to renew your faith and fill you with His Holy Spirit. Pentecost Sunday In the Christian year today is a celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2). The season of Pentecost celebrates the work of the Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit is not an “it” but a Person of the Trinity and the strength of Christ in the church. He draws us to Jesus. He convicts us of sin. He persuades and enables us to believe. He unites us with Christ and mediates the presence of Jesus to us, bringing all the benefits of salvation to our souls. He gives gifts. He leads. He fills. He comforts. He brings forth spiritual fruit. And the Spirit always seems to throw the floodlight back onto Christ.

Pentecost, the Gift of God the Holy Spirit to the Church and all believers
The Feast of Pentecost Pentecost is about the gift of God the Holy Spirit to Christ's Church and all who believe in Christ. As we accept Christ as Lord and Savior, God the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within the inner most depths of our souls. It is the fulfillment of the promise, Emmanuel, God is with us. But it is more for we are never alone. Nor our we left to our own devices and desire. As we chose to yield to God the Holy Spirit, we become more like Christ. HIs mercy and grace are reflected in us and through our lives.

From an Ember Comes Fire
In the daily grind of life we have lost track of the Spirit of God that came to the world at Pentecost. How would we approach life differently if we woke every day expecting the power of God to do something in the world? How can we open our lives to receive the Holy Spirit and be empowered to witness to the love of God through Jesus Christ?

Graduation
We have the promise of God that when we can’t hear the wind of the Spirit or feel its power at our backs, God has promised that he would not leave us orphaned, without his protection and guidance, as we walk on past the cross and into the world. He has sent us the Helper, his Spirit, to come alongside us and encourage us as we run the race set before us.

Dependence on God
As a church we value being: Dependent on God – God is the source of all things we need to live a blameless and upright life. It is through the Holy Spirit and prayer that we receive power to stand up for God, move forward in His purposes, and to live a blameless life. Acts 1:8, Acts 17:28

How thirsty are you?
HOW THIRSTY ARE YOU? John 7:37-39) Pentecost Sunday 37. On the last day and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out with a loud voice saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Historical setting of this scripture: Do you Know What you are Thirsty for? Come to Me Drink Believe in Me as the Scriptures say Out of your heart will flow rivers (springs) of living water What is the Nature of These Springs? The living Springs come by receiving the Holy Spirit The supernatural Springs flowing from this Rock are now in us The power effected in us goes far beyond our natural ability The Springs can dry up and they can be revived The Holy Spirit came on Pentecost (Acts 1: 4-8; 2: 1-42) They waited because they were thirsty The Holy Spirit came upon them in a visible presence It turned cowardly persons hung up with their personal junk into bold powerful ambassadors for Christ. Miracles, signs, wonders, gifts and fruit came with the Spirit The promise of the Holy Spirit is to all men, women, sons and daughters Let those who are thirsty come; and let all who wish take the free gift of the water of life. (Revelation 22:17)
