Sermons About Performance
Praying Twice
From time to time, when it’s a slow news day, one of the TV stations may interview people trying to get tickets for some popular concert at the Greensboro coliseum. Not long ago, with people camping out for several nights to get good seats for some concert, a woman who was being interviewed burbled that she was glad to spend two nights on the ground to be first in line for tickets. It made me wonder: has anyone ever camped out on a Friday night … to be sure to get good seats at church on a Sunday morning? Why?.......

The Performance Trap - Parent Trap #3
Parents are the most influential people in a child’s life. Good parents always want what is best for their children. They want good things for their kids: to be happy, productive and moral. But good things out of place can become dangerous. Well meaning parents regularly step into traps that poison a child’s faith in the name of something good. Don’t fall into the "Parent Trap." By looking at major Bible themes, Lead Pastor Jeff Lawrence helps parents avoid the traps that damage a child’s faith. When I’ve Done Enough
Paul says the key to being happy with God is how you approach him. The biggest happiness-stealer with God is thinking that it’s our good performance that establishes our relationship with him. Paul says that it’s Jesus’ performance that gives us the right-ness of a secure relationship with him. This leads us to a relationship with God where the more we know Jesus, the more we’ll personally experience the power of his resurrection.

Tapping Out Sin
If battling sin was like two mixed martial artists fighting in the octagon for everyone to see, then far too often we would find ourselves flat on the mat, tapping out to certain sins that have plagued us all our life. How is it that trying harder like praying more intensely and reading the Bible doesn't guarantee victory over sin? In his message Teaching Pastor Yancey Arrington will look at how we can actually find more wins than losses over that toughest of opponents...how we can truly tap out sin!

Boasting in Christ
The main problem with the church in Galatia is the main problem Christians and churches contend with today: “Is Jesus really all we need, or do we need something else in addition to him?” Often, Jesus is viewed as a starting point, and then we try to add extra things to the work He did to “save” us, and fall into the trap of a performance-driven religiosity, contrary to what the Bible teaches. In our final sermon studying the book of Galatians, we are reminded that when we add anything to Jesus, we lose Jesus.

From the Gospel to the Garden
There are only two ways to relate to God: on the basis of God's promise which leads to eternal life, or on the basis of your performance which leads to eternal death.

Freedom-Faith Goes to Work - Galatians #11
What makes the Christian faith like no other? The good news of God’s grace is the bold claim that we are accepted by God not because we “follow the rules” or “fit the mold” but because Jesus gave his own life to rescue us. But many of us are still trying to earn God’s love with our performance rather than living in the freedom that Jesus has provided for us. In Galatians, Paul warns against the danger of religious systems that value people on grounds of accomplishment or status or cultural agreement. These things lock away our freedom in the futility of legalism, moral superiority and cultural arrogance. Focusing on either the racial/ethnic/cultural superiority or the moral successes of good works denies the gospel and divides Jesus’ followers. Join us as we explore how God offers us true freedom in Jesus and how the freedom of Christ transforms our hearts, our minds and lives.
