Acts 11 : Breaking Barriers - All People Everywhere Can Be Clean
It is in the book of Acts that we read of non-Jews coming to faith in Jesus. This was not totally unusual even during the OT times (Rahab, Ruth). But such cases were sort of an “exceptionâ€. The Jewish Church leaders probably viewed the conversion of the Samaritans and the Ethiopian as exceptions as well. BUT no one in the early Jewish Church was prepared for the flood of Gentiles that would soon make up a majority of the Church. See, an old barrier existed between Jews and Gentiles – a legal barrier which did not allow a Jew to step foot into the home of a Gentile – God-fearer or not! This barrier seemed destined to remain for eternity. Luke tells us that it was Peter who crossed over that barrier and declared it had been made obsolete by the cross. Jewish Christians should not see Jesus as the savior of Jews alone, but see Jesus as an international savior, one who came to bleed and die for Gentiles of many languages and colors.

A Continual Unfolding
There are some high mountain peaks in every narrative, crucial plot turns which move the story to its climax. As the story of Jesus unfolds in Mark we see some very important events go down. First, Peter confesses Jesus to be the Christ a confession upon which the church will be built. Second, Jesus begins to foretell what was prophesied about him long ago, that the Son of Man must suffer, be murdered and rise from death. This was an unexpected turn of events for the disciples that he repeats with them driving home the central focus of his mission. Third, God reveals Jesus is his glory on the top of a mountain. His radiant beauty and manifest glory was displayed for the disciples just before they turn towards leading the mission towards a cross in Jerusalem. The cost of following Jesus, a Jesus who would be rejected by people and die an ignoble death, was being made clear.

Matthew 4:18-22 (AM)
Adam preaches Matthew 4:18-22. As Messiah, Jesus issued a reasonable call to the men who would become His closest followers. Immediately the two groups of brothers responded, an appropriate reaction to the words of the One who had already been proven as the Messiah.

Chase the Lion (#4): Looking Foolish & Taking Risks
Lion-chasers are willing to look foolish and take risks. Like Peter, lion-chasers step out of the boat because they know that to sink is better than to sit. We all face lions; we can either chase them or cave to them. Two lions we all face are the lion of "authentic community" and the "lion of purpose". Chase these lions!
