Jesus teaching and referring to His disciples as children. At this time in His teaching they are still little children as they are just beginning to understand His teachings.
Lists, Loopholes, Legalities... Love
"Just give me the list - and I'll do it!" That phrase may be the exasperated cry of a person desperately trying to please another, and in far too many cases, it is how we have approached our relationship to God. We have reduced our "friendship with God" down to a sterile formula of "do's and don'ts" and as long as we have checked off all the items on the list, we feel fairly secure. But Jesus blows this kind of "list" Christianity out of the water, when He shreds the Pharisees for their attention to minute details of the law, yet have hearts that are cold and distant. What if Jesus was more concerned with your heart attitude than with your adherance to a list of rules? Novel thought? Key Passage: Matthew 5:20
Do You Not Yet Understand?
As the first half of Mark's Gospel comes to a close, Mark gives us an opportunity to evaluate our relationship to Jesus. In this final scene, we see Jesus once again act with compassion on the crowd, once again battle with the Pharisees, and once again challenge his disciples. As we evaluate the reasons that Jesus deals differently with each group, we will get an honest glimpse into our own heart-level relationship with Jesus.

The Covenant Meal Inaugurated (Mark 14:1-31)
The nation of Israel failed to see that the greatest problem they had was not external, such as Rome, but was internal -- their own sin. As a result, they failed to see what sort of a Savior and Messiah they needed. In this passage, we see a sharp contrast between Mary's loving and worshipful anointing of Jesus against the hatred and betrayal of Jesus's many enemies. But at the same time, we are reminded that all -- both true and false disciples -- have need of a savior. We see God's provision for us in Jesus's death, and are regularly reminded of it in our celebration of the Lord's supper.
Soul Prosperity
We need to live in God’s righteousness, peace and joy on the inside all the time, not just cry out to God for it when we are in a crisis. Our soul is prospering when we are walking in step with Holy Spirit.
Fruitful Living in the Kingdom of God (Mark 7:1 - 8:26)
In order to live fruitful, joyful and obedient lives as God's children, we must understand our Savior -- he comes to us without the trappings of man's traditions, and with the power to truly save and to truly preserve us.
Dawn of a New Day (Mark 2:18 - 3:35)
Jesus has come as King and Savior to bring forgiveness and life and joy and freedom. Few people recognized his coming as the appearance of the Christ. We are to see Jesus as our life and our hope and our freedom.
Mark 8 - Who do you say I am?
The disciples begin another learning cycle with Jesus by again facing an impossible task and again fail to see what He is trying to teach them.
