Staying On The Mountain
An Attitude of Gratitude, part 2 Staying on the Mountain Philippians 3:1-11 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. Philippians 3:1 Three Guardrails to Keep You on the Mountain of Joy 1. RESIST legalistic attitudes (attitude determines altitude) Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh. Philippians 3:2-3 Guardrail: LIVE EACH DAY BY GRACE For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 2. REEVALUATE your priorities But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ . . . Philippians 3:7-8 Guardrail: KEEP YOUR PRIORITIES IN PERSPECTIVE "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15 3. REFOCUS your ambitions I want to KNOW Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death . . . Philippians 3:10 For my determined purpose is that I may KNOW Him that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly . . . (amplified version) 3 Ways to Grow in Knowing Christ (the 3 “T’s”) 1. 2. 3.
