Sermons about Political Correctness
We serve Jesus in a time when "political correctness" seems to be the driving factor for how we communicate and relate to our culture. This message addresses how we should speak and live for God in this environment.
Dr. Harry Wood, retired PennJersey District Superintendent for the Wesleyan Church, is a guest speaker at Bethany this morning. Dr. Wood challenges listeners, still celebrating the birth of Christ, that celebration that is not accompanied by consecration leads to consternation. Basing his message on the book Jeremiah, Dr. Wood illustrates what is means to consecrate yourself to God, His Word and His Holy Spirit.
Tony Plews gave us an amazing overview of Western thinking about truth in the last fifteen centuries. He started off with the questions that all philosophies or religions must answer (How did everything begin? What went wrong with it? How can it be fixed?) and explored the biblical responses to these questions. He pointed out the way that modern Western civilization splits life into public vs private, and opinion vs fact. He then explored what truth is like according to the New Testament and what that means for us if we are to have faith in this truth. It was a comprehensive and challenging sermon. Apologies for the loss of Tony's opening comments due to technical problems.
Freedom of Religion. What does that mean? In today's America it means all religions should get equal time. The culture puts forth the proposition that it is morally wrong to deny people freedom to worship according to their own conscience. Is this biblical? Deuteronomy 12 begins the section of specific commands which Israel must follow if she is to stand in the promised land. The same truth still applies for our nation today.
