Sermons about Preaching
Complacent Christians can become numbed with the pleasures and conveniences of this world. The Word of the Lord, through the prophet Joel, is applied in this sermon to the present-day believer who is not minding the work of the Lord as he should.
Most churches and many pastor’s for that matter believe that the pastor is the one responsible for building the church. He is the chief servant, missionary, trustee, visitor, etc. This being the case, most pastors resort to the ‘whatever works’ mentality. If my paycheck depends on people coming in and the appearance of numerical growth then I will do whatever it takes. I have been asked to kiss a pig, cut my hair off, and preach from the roof of the building. I know of churches that give away cars, offer week-long vacations, cash prizes, and various other enticements in order to ‘build’ the numbers in the church. That is not what we see here.
