The Equipping of the New Covenant Priest
God's desire for you and His will for you is for you to be obedient to Him and to be pleasing in His sight and He has determined to make that happen in you and me as His new covenant priests. We will be pleasing to Him and we will be obedient to Him.

Priestly Duty of Prayer
This morning from our text and the previous texts I want you to see three specific requests that we should bring before the throne of grace on behalf of our leaders. 1. We should pray that our leaders will proclaim to us the full counsel of God. 2. We should pray that our leaders will live lives that are worthy of imitation. 3. We should pray that our leaders will keep close watch over our souls.

A Royal Priesthood
My purpose in preaching this passage is to show you this morning what your sacred calling is as a Christian. I also want to free you from the mindset of having to sit and wonder what it is that God has called you to as a ministry. I want you to understand that every Christian has a sacred calling to minister as a New Covenant priest and God has already said what the offering is to be. I also want you to understand that these sacrifices are not additions to the sacrifice of Christ but are proof positive of the radical change in you as the sacrifice of Christ has been applied to you in salvation and made you free to serve the living God with a clear conscience. Next week we will look at our priestly duty toward the church.

The Altar of Privilege
The purpose of the writer of Hebrews for giving us verse 10 is to indeed show us how privileged we are and how grace upon grace from God has rained down on us by the possession of this altar that he speaks of in verse 10.

The Scarlet Thread
The theme of sacrifice and the need for a blood-atonement is a difficult theme for our squeamish age. But it is a central theme in the Bible. As we read through the Bible in 90 days and we see the unity of God’s redemptive plan, it is important to follow this red trace through the Scriptures. The Bible says that “the life is in the blood”,(Leviticus 17:11) and “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). The New Testament says that Christ with His blood “purchased for God’s people from every tribe and language and people and nation to make them a kingdom of priests to serve God and reign with Him.” What is going on? As we move through the season of Lent and approach Holy Week it is important to move from squeamishness to understanding.
