Sermons About Promises
It Will Not Fail
Last week’s sermon laid the foundation for this series “Finding Good News in Bad Times†restating the basic idea of salvation through Christ. This week focuses on the accompanying idea according, to the apostle Paul, that if God sent Jesus to die for you, he will also give you “all thingsâ€. However, the problem many believers struggle with is the timing of it all or “when†to expect those blessings. God’s concept of time is vastly different from man’s finite understanding of linear time. God’s promises for your life will come right on time—in his time—just as Christ’s sacrifice came at the right time. You, as a believer, are to live by faith, waiting for God’s promised blessing that will certainly come just as Habakkuk 2:2-4 teaches—it will not fail.

Do Not Fear, For God Has Willed...
Fear is like poison to faith. It weakens and eventually kills it. So how, in the face of the pressures of life, economic insecurity, and the potential of unfair treatment by those around, can we find the fortitude to remain faithful rather than fearful? What is the antidote if you will, to the poison of fear? Jesus' words to the church in Sardis give us three ingredients in the antidote for fear: Christ’s providence, Christ’s promises, and Christ’s person.

Matters of Life and Death (Romans 8:10)
Death came as punishment for sin. But for the Christian, we are declared righteous in Christ, so death is no longer a punishment. Instead, we have the great hope of eternal life, with glorified bodies, in the presence of Jesus our Lord. This far surpasses the joy we taste in this life. In his wisdom, God has bound up death but has not destroyed it, so as Christians we will still taste physical death. But we can do so in faith that God is in complete control, and in hope of a far better life where all of God's promises are made complete.

Believing God and His Promises: Simeon: Christmas Sunday: Luke 2:21-35
A Promise is only as good as the person giving the promise. And, in the life of Simeon, we see someone who understands that God is a promise-keeping God and can be infinitely trusted. Do we believe God and his promises? Do we find the culmination of all of our hopes in the Christ... Jesus?
