Humility - The Mark of God's Child (Psalm 119:169-176
It is fitting that the we should end finding the psalmist in prayer for that is precisely how we have learned from him throughout most of the 176 vv. This is because he is a man who is living out his relationship to God. Relationship is just that, it is interaction, it is living life with God in a hostile world - talking to Him; trusting Him; complaining to Him; rejoicing in Him; seeking His favor. So here he is, once again. pouring out his heart to God in prayer and we, the readers, are standing in a dark corner of his inner room, hidden by the shadows of time, and listening to his Holy Spirit inspired expressions of faith. And we see and hear a man who has been humbled before God. There is not hint of self-righteousness, no shadow of self-satisfaction, nor shimmer of pride as he approaches God with a real sense of dependence and trust. And this is surely one of the truest marks of grace in a redeemed heart. The psalmist prayer manifest humility and genuine dependence on God in all things. 4 Expressions of dependence by one who has been humbled before God. His need for understanding His need of God’s grace to worship rightly His need for God’s Salvation His need for God’s preserving grace

God's Word an extension of God's Character (Ps. 119:137-144)
Gods' Word reflects God's righteous character and produces righteousness in His people, therefore God's Word is the food and joy of His servants. We often don't think of it that way, yet God says that He exalts His Word to the level of His Name. When the Bible speaks, God speaks, God is eternal, His Word is eternal. God is righteous, His Word is given in righteousness. The list could go on. God has communicated Himself in His Word and to embrace this reality by faith produces God's character in His people, and HIs Word becomes a source of inexhaustible strength and joy.

Tests of Love for God (Psalm 119:129-136)
There is little that amazes us anymore. With the advent of television, movies, and computer animated images, our senses have become dull, this is why the entertainment industry constantly has to come up with something more and more fantastic. And the advancements in technology that allow you to hold a little device in your hand and talk to anybody, anywhere in the world – or send pictures, or information back and forth at the touch of a button, is an amazing reality that has simply become common place. And unfortunately the effect this has is to lessen our amazement with the reality of God and the redemption that is reveled on the pages of Scripture. -This is the danger that lies before us – that we can fail to be amazed at God; to be amazed at His Person; amazed at His work –where a recounting of the gospel is simply dull reminder of information that has long sense failed to stoke the embers of our heart; we get used to all the things we have heard before. So, we must come again to God’s Word and measure the spiritual temperature of your heart; and Ps. 119:129-136 gives us opportunity to do just that. And this brings us to the question I will place before you this evening –What are the expressions of the heart to the Word of God that measure your love for God? Well, Psalm 119:129-136 provides an answer to that question, by giving 3 responses of your heart that measure your love for God. They are 1) Amazement at God’s revelation, 2) Zeal for complete holiness, and 3) Brokenness over all sin.

Zealous love for God (Psalm 119:113-120)
When we think about commitment to Christ and to the kingdom we so often put it into a context of mediocrity and we see it around us and start to think that is the standard of zeal. The psalmist confronts with our apathy and models for us a man who is sold out for Christ; a man who has set his heart toward things eternal; because he has set his heart toward the Eternal One. In this section the psalmist displays a zealous love and reverence for God! 3 Evidences of a Passionate love for God (1) Zealous Commitment (113-115) (2) Zealous Prayer (116-117) (3) Zealous Fear (118-120)

Hope through Despair (Psalm 119:81-88)
The psalmist is going through a deep spiritual struggle. He feels abandoned by the Lord; his inner spiritual strength is gone; his previous fellowship has been taken away; the intimate delight is a distant memory. He is desperate for deliverance; he lacks a sense of God’s compassion; he feels God’s delay in judging his persecutors, until the point that he is despairing even of life. He is in a spiritual valley. “The midnight of the Psalm, and very dark and black it is†(Spurgeon). Spurgeon himself is said to have struggled at times with depression. This teaches us that even the most eminent of saints are not beyond the flaming arrows of our adversary and are not immune at times to letting their guard down and having those arrows embedded into the heart. Thankfully, for the believer, that no a single arrow of Satan, no matter how well suited and painful it may be, is ever a death blow. A believer may be weakened by Satan’s attacks but he is never defeated and cannot be ultimately. We have the divine resources of an indestructible life in Christ Jesus (Hebrews 2:16-18; 4:15-16; 7:25). (In the world you have troubles, but take courage. I have overcome the world [John 16:33]); what is the victory that overcomes the world: our faith (1 John 5:4).Hope in and faithfulness to the Word of God are anchors to the soul in spiritual struggle and persecution.
