God’s Gifts at Christmas Part 3: When God Messes Up Your Plans “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.†Jeremiah 29:11 Three reasons why God messes up your plans: 1. God wants to get your attention “But my people would not listen to me . . .†Psalm 81:11 (NIV) There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 16:25 (NIV) 2. God has a different plan for your life “I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.†Jeremiah 29:11 (Message paraphrase) i. God’s plan is BIGGER than our plan ii. God’s plan is GREATER than our plan iii. God’s plan is more REWARDING than any other plan in life “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.†1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT) 3. God wants you to trust him And without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6a (NIV) And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (NIV) i. God has a plan and purpose for your life ii. God will be with you no matter what you face iii. Trusting God is the most relaxed, rational, sane way to live You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV) The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever . Psalm 138:8 (NIV) Thank you for being a part of The Waters this Christmas. God’s Gifts at Christmas Part 2: God’s Gift Exchange . . . he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. Isaiah 61:3 (NLT) I. And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid.†John 14:27 (TLB) How? Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) II. When we give God our HURTS, God gives us his HEALING “From a sea of troubles I call out to You, Lord.†Psalm 130:1 (CEV) “He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted.†Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV) “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. When we give God our GRIEF, God gives us his JOY “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy.†Psalm 30:11 (NLT) “. . . weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning..†Psalm 30:5 (NIV) “You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.†John 16:20b (NIV) How? “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Being Satisfied in God (Psalm 119:57-64)
Most of our spiritual struggles (if not all) come from the fact that we are seeking satisfaction in things other than God; we have competing desires. Are greatest spiritual joys come when find our complete satisfaction in God Himself. When we rest and rely completely on Him, finding in Him the answer to all our hearts desires.
