The Better Path
There are a lot of times in life when it makes good sense to search for a better way, a better path to take. But how often do we ask if there is a better way to do life itself, a better path to take for all of life? The first Psalm offers us exactly that. It's the introduction to the whole book of Psalms, one of the greatest books of wisdom in the Scriptures and in all of literature. It presents all of life as a choice between two paths or ways.

A Psalm. For Giving Thanks.
The book of Psalms is famous for the way it speaks about two things: the pain of life and the praise of God. We often find it hard to put the two together. How can you be heartfelt about the praise of God if you are honest about the pain of life? What the psalms teach us is that it is not only possible to be thankful, it's important. When life is going well thankfulness reminds us that behind all of the good gifts of life there is a God who is good. When life seems filled with troubles, being thankful doesn't dissolve your troubles but it can transform your spirit. It can be an act of faith that gives you the strength to get through trouble without bitterness or foolishness.

Living With Confidence
God wants us to be confident. He has given us a whole group of Psalms that are called Psalms of Confidence. The 23rd Psalm is one of these. God intended that as we read, sing and meditate on these Psalms that they would instill within us confidence. In Psalm 23, this confidence comes from knowing that God is our shepherd and host, and as such, we will have everything that we need.

Psalm 139: The Glory of God vs. the Glory of Man
We want to be like God. Humans throughout the world, and especially in America, hold on to the belief that we can improve our lives, make ourselves happy, and even achieve perfection. In Psalm 139 David sings the praises of God, magnifying his omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence, then closes with a plea for God to know his heart and show how he can better know and follow Him. We cannot be God.

Praying With The Psalmists: A Study in the Psalms, Psalm 38
Today we are going to look at Psalm 38 and how 4 prayers and three complaints can be worked together to form a proper human response to pain and to God. There are too many people who either want to blame God and be bitter, or gloss over the elephant in the room (Human Pain) and try to put on a “Religious Front,†neither which helps us with our pain, or moves us toward God.

Praying With The Psalmists: A Study in the Psalms, Psalm 25
Trust is a hard thing for sinful humanity! But it is the thing that we are called to do, and the thing that will renew our souls. This Psalm (like much of the wisdom literature in the bible) contrasts those who are wicked with those who are righteous. The contrast has little to do with the individual’s character and much to do with whom the individual puts his/hers trust. As one commentator writes, “The essence of the road to righteousness is this; it is a road too difficult to walk without the companionship and friendship of God.â€

When I Endure Trials
This snapshot from the life of the Psalmist vividly displays the emotionally charged nature of faith slammed by anguish and trial. It is grippingly real. And it is also a pattern for how to rightly prepare for the suffering that is round the corner.
