Living in Hunger
Hunger can be a good thing. It let’s us know that we are alive and that we are healthy. People who have lost their appetite are often suffering from sickness. The greatest banquet spread before them goes untouched. Sometimes, even the mere sight of food can cause one to become nauseous. And of course dead people have no appetite at all. Hunger can also be a bad thing. It can cause one to be satisfied with unhealthy foods that cause sick sickness and it can cause one to neglect the food which is necessary to bring good health. It can cause one to feed on often no physical nutrition at all. In 1 Peter 2:1-3, we see the Bible’s teaching on spiritual hunger and the need for spiritual nourishment to change our lives from one of despair and selfishness to one of hope and love. In a world of suffering and grief, our spiritual nourishment will not be gained from the things this world has to offer, but only from the milk of God’s word. As those who hope in Christ, we must seek to feed our souls in His word so that our lives can be changed for his glory.
