FL News: The Insatiable Quest For Beauty
Each Tuesday, we like to highlight people who are making a difference in the Family Life listening area in New York and Pennsylvania. At just 25 years old, Tiffany Dawn has already written a book, recorded a cd, and created an interactive website. The Clifton Park, NY resident says God revealed what she looked like to Him, and she felt led to share the plan with other women who are struggling with their beauty.
Can You Handle the Truth?
Based on the GodQuest materials by Sean McDowell, Message #1 explores The Quest, that what we believe determines where we will go in life.
Quest #5 - Tell of God's Blessing (Part 6)
How is a 1956 plane crash a model for the church in the 21st century? What did Jesus mean when he said the he came to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor? What is favor and how are we to carry on this mission? Every Christian is asked to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and to press forward with the great quests of Jesus, to assume for ourselves the Five Quests of the Christian Life.
Quest #4 - Release the Oppressed (Part 5)
Jesus said that one of his missions (quests) on earth was to "release the oppressed." Who was he talking about? Who are the oppressed in our modern world? If we open our hearts and look through a lens of love and compassion, we will find the oppressed in many places including our own communities. Particular emphasis in this message is placed on human trafficking. Some of the stories might be troubling to young children so LISTENER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
Quest #3 - The Gift of Sight (Part 4)
Jesus calls his church to carry on his ministry until his return to earth and one of Jesus' primary ministries was to bring sight to the blind. How can we do that? What did Jesus mean when he proclaimed restoration of sight to the blind? Can we cure blindness? You bet. Both kinds. The real danger is that we ourselves may fall into blindness and our churches may fall into blindness.
Quest #2 - Announce Freedom (Part 3)
With more than 7 million prisoners in the United States alone, there is an abundance of persons to whom we may "proclaim freedom" in the name of Jesus but is that what Jesus really meant? Are those behind concrete walls and steel bars the only ones to whom we have been called to minister? The apostle Paul tells us that the people who are in prison are far greater in number than simply those convicted of crimes and the job of announcing freedom far larger than we might have imagined. Still, as the body of Christ, we are called to carry on the Jesus' mission until his return. What is it that we are supposed to do?
Where Do I Fit? (Part 1)
Based on Jesus reading the words of Isaiah in the synagogue, we ask ourselves how we fit in the the world, the church and the Body of Christ. This is the introduction to a series entitled "The Five Quests of the Christian Life" and through Paul we understand that we all were not called to be the same or to doe the same things. Instead, as followers of Jesus, we are called to pursue the things that he did. We inherit the mission of Jesus and must choose for ourselves from among these Five Quests. Which quest will you choose?
Meaning
We all crave for "meaning" in our lives... we yearn to make sense of the world and our place in it. What is true? Why am I here? Timeless questions that have been asked even by the wisest of men. Erwin McManus writes: "While we may disagree on what we believe in and we may argue violently about what is true, what we can't escape is that we are all on the same quest and our soul craving is to find something to believe in... Whatever I would come to believe in, it could not simply change my mind; it had to change my life....When we search for truth, we search for God. Our souls crave the One who is true." Key Passages: Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 and 12:13-14
