Doing Right When Life Isn't Working
Does it ever seem to you like life simply is not going your way? Imagine waking up on the first morning of your marriage and the person lying next to you is not the person you thought you were marrying. Imagine the confusion, disappointment, anger, and hurt that would run through your mind all at once. That was the life the Jacob woke up to on a very strange morning. Jacob waited another week to get the wife he really wanted, and it was not long before the two wives became four wives. What a mess. It was not a mess that was entirely Jacob’s fault, but it was a mess that he was going to have to live with. And it is a mess that God has preserved for us in His Word so that we could learn about His greatness and mercy. Most of our lives are not filled with problems that stem from four wives, or marrying someone we did not plan to marry. They are rather problems that stem from our own choices and the choices of those around us. While these choices may have brought great problems for us, we can learn about God’s mercy and goodness through the life of Jacob as we look at this part of life this morning.
