Reframing Worship
We humans worship. We all do it—every generation, every tribe, every culture. We look beyond ourselves for meaning and purpose. Modern humans continue to worship with the same passion and zeal as have previous generations. In fact, the church of Jesus Christ around the globe has been greatly influenced in our times by a musical movement commonly characterized as “praise and worship.” I am happy to see this development in the church. I want to worship God more passionately myself. I love to hear the songs of the saints rising powerfully heavenward. Worship is not a liturgy, of course. It is not a certain set of songs or a routine of readings, servings, and settings. Worship is the heart of man lovingly humbled before the heart of God.
