Calling the despised
Some time ago there was a picture in a weekend supplement. It showed a globe and superimposed on the globe were two great world leaders: Messrs Bush and Blair were walking away from the globe with their arms around each other. Across the centre of the globe was a huge sticking plaster with blood oozing from underneath. We often believe that new world leaders will bring about a better world order; they will create wealth and eradicate poverty. Yes, we in the West really think we can build the new Jerusalem, but the truth is that our world still bleeds and all our leaders can offer us is sticking plaster solutions. Here in Matt 8 - 10 we see the arrival of King Jesus and we see what it means for us to live in the light of His arrival. Now let's find out why the pharisees were so offended by Jesus' priority in seeking out sinners, and why religion blinds people to the truth of Christ.

Can we be good without Jesus?
The question, can we be good without Jesus, draws a variety of responses. This is because it can be taken in more than one way. Reactions to it range all the way from emphatic "No way!" to "Of course you can! Why would you say otherwise?" The way we answer this question depends upon what we think about Jesus, about goodness, and about ourselves. Key Passage: Romans 3:19-26
