Sermons About Rescue
Ehud the Judge
The book of Judges is characterised by a common cycle in Israel of rebellion, retribution, rescue and repentence, followed by a return to rebellion and the repetition of the cycle. Each time the nation rebels, God sends a 'judge' to be their rescuer. Each of the judges is an unlikely figure and each method of rescue equally unlikely. Perhaps this points to the ultimately unlikely figure of Jesus as the servant King, and the ultimate rescue in the form of apparent failure on the Cross. God's ways are not our ways, and He chooses methods that seem to our human eyes to be folly. But God is sovereign and knows better than any of us what He is doing! Here's the test we should apply: Which way is my life moving - towards Jesus, or away from Him?

Galatians 1.1-5: The Gospel of Grace and Peace
Paul tells us in Galatians 5.1, It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery As Paul writes to the Galatians there is something important at stake. It is freedom. True freedom was being attacked in his day and it is being attacked in our day as well. We must lift up Jesus, who is the freedom giver. The cross of Christ is the only way one can experience true freedom and the Spirit of Christ is the only way one can live out God's aim and mission. Over the next few months we will look at God's desire of freedom through the book of Galatians. We will see what God has done to make freedom possible, we will see the message of freedom and see how one who is truly free lives. Our prayer is that nothing would hold you back from living out God's aim and mission. Our prayer is that you would be free and therefore live a life of freedom.

The Lord is My Rock and My Fortress
We like to think of ourselves as self-reliant and capable of protecting ourselves. We arrange our careers, finances, relationships, and technology to this end, but eventually we get to a place where all of the money, status, medicine, and relationships cannot save us and the condition of our life is out of our hands. David wrote Psalm 18 after God brought him through a life and death situation where he was entirely dependent on God’s protection. David called out to God for help and God saved him, so David wrote this song to honor the Lord, his rock and fortress.

Jesus died as our substitute because of the Severity of Sin and the Holy Love of God. But what did that death accomplish? What significance does Jesus' death have for us today? This is what we explore on Easter Sunday as we consider Jesus' redemption of mankind.

Rejoicing in Rescue
Luke 15:1-10 With the memory of the Grand Banquet (14:15-24) fresh in the reader's mind, the question arises: Why would a wealthy host want to let his house be filled with the poor, blind, crippled, and lame? And even more, why would he invite total strangers – foreigners! – to his banquet? Jesus gives the answer: Because His goodness and greatness are most clearly displayed in the rescue of those who are helpless to save themselves, and are unworthy in themselves to merit rescue.

More Than Just Forgiveness
A lot of times we limit our understanding of salvation to that initial experience of God's forgiveness. But forgiveness is only the first step. The larger experience of salvation is our restoration into the people that God created us to be.
