A Beneficial Terror
The fear of God is an unpopular topic in our day and age. We often prefer to think of God as a sort of nice grandfather who gives out presents but never disciplines. But the one true God in the Bible is the almighty Creator of the entire universe who rules and reigns with both love and wrath, and we should all have a healthy fear of Him because He can discipline us now for disobeying His good commands. We should also fear Him because we will all stand before Him one day and give an account for what we did with our lives, and He has the power and authority to punish those who do not put their trust in His Son in hell for all eternity.

It’s interesting how our culture thinks we should pick a marriage partner on the basis of who we like or “love”. We think we can make a wise choice on marriage when we have never been married. We think we can choose our life mate when we don’t even know who we are ourselves, much less who we will become. What are we attracted to when it comes to finding a husband or wife?

Central to all human relationships is the foundation of mutual respect and honour. This "valuing" from one person to another may be seen no more clearly than in the relationship between the generations. When parents bless and honour their children, and when children in turn show reverence and respect toward, not only their parents, but ALL older people, it lays the foundation for a society where strong relationships are the norm. Rip respect and honour from the culture, and chaos and anarchy soon reign.
