Recipe #6: Caring For Your Mate THE SECRET TO CARING FOR YOUR MATE: **SERVING** Wives serve by submitting. “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:22 Husbands serve by dying. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her…” Ephesians 5:25 1] STEP ONE: Make sure your heart is filled with God’s Love. 1 John 4:7-9; Ephesians 5:1, 2; Galatians 5:13 2] STEP TWO: Keep your heart open to your mate. Ephesians 4:2 3] STEP THREE: Create security so your mate keeps their heart open to you. Matthew 12:25; Philippians 2:3-4 4] STEP FOUR: Respond (give) to the desires of your mate. “The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew 23:11 “Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

Call a Time Out. **“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” James 1:19-20 **“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6 2. Cry out to God. **“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 **“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 3. Commit to Forgiving Your Mate. **“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:31-32 4. Choose a different Reaction. **James 1:21-25 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does. 5. Create Judgment Free Zones. **James 4:11-12 Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor? TO YOUR MATE: I PROMISE to find God’s best in every trial. I give you the security of knowing that the negative things that happen in our marriage will not destroy my love for you. I will not expect perfection from you, but will use even the irritations between us as opportunities to see my blind spots and foster my personal growth. I will call on the power of Christ to root out my weaknesses. (Romans 8:28, James 1:12, Romans 5:3-5)

Recipe #3: A Strong Foundation The WRONG Questions: Will my needs get met? What’s in it for me? Will I be happy? The RIGHT Question: Am I demonstrating the image and character of Jesus Christ? 1. Promise your mate that you will not expect them to meet all of your needs. “My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 2. Promise your mate that you will learn to love God “with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength” Mark 12:30. 3. Promise your mate that you will look to God alone to charge your battery to full. (vs. 16-19 on screen) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” Eph.3:16-20 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another . . And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:15-17 4. Promise your mate that you will take 100% responsibility for your journey. “It is not good for the man to be alone,” he said. “I will make a helper suitable for him” Genesis 2:18 “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it” Genesis 3:12 5. Promise your mate that you will assist him or her on their journey. “conformed to the likeness of his Son” Romans 8:29 “the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed” Genesis 2:25 “This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” Ephesians 5:32-33

A Beneficial Terror
The fear of God is an unpopular topic in our day and age. We often prefer to think of God as a sort of nice grandfather who gives out presents but never disciplines. But the one true God in the Bible is the almighty Creator of the entire universe who rules and reigns with both love and wrath, and we should all have a healthy fear of Him because He can discipline us now for disobeying His good commands. We should also fear Him because we will all stand before Him one day and give an account for what we did with our lives, and He has the power and authority to punish those who do not put their trust in His Son in hell for all eternity.
