How Does Jesus Respond to Failures?: A Look at the Life of Peter Many of us are afraid of what others would think about us if they really knew us—all of our secrets, hidden thoughts, and actions. This fear causes us to set up walls and keep certain parts of our lives private. But what about God? What does the God who sees everything about us think? How does the God who sees everything respond to our failures? Until we know how God responds to failures, we will never truly be able to trust him with our hearts. To answer this question I want to look at one of the biggest failures in the Bible and see how Jesus responds to him. His name is Peter and we will find that we are more like him than we might think.

Glory in This!
Living in a culture that has forgotten its God and being commanded to take the knowledge of God to them.... That is where Jeremiah was in about 600 BC and that is where we as Christians are at in 21st century America. What is it about God that we need to communicate to our culture? Is it really much different than Jeremiah's message? As we examine these two verses for Jeremiah 9 we will see that as God does not change, neither does fallen man and neither does our message.

Blessed Persecution, Pt. 2 (Matthew 5:10-12)
Persecution, in all its forms and various degrees, is and has been the experience of the righteous ever since the blood of Abel was shed by his brother Cain. We often respond to ridicule, harassment, and other forms of persecution with anger, resentment, retaliation, and judgment. However, this is sin and we need to come to grips with the Lord's commands in Matthew 5:10-12 and respond with rejoicing, gladness, and graciousness. It is not easy and it certainly is not something we do in our own strength; it is a fruit of grace in the heart. The Christian, however, has a hope in heaven and a reward from the Lord for humble obedience that is our true hope and encouragement as we live out our faith in the midst of a hostile world.

The Exchanged Life
Many believers have an understanding and experience of God's forgiveness, but only a vague idea about the blessing of being "the righteousness of God in Christ" that comes through grace. We can be set free from the "Performance See-Saw" when we understand that maturity comes by grace, just as our forgiveness does

A Vision For Serving Our God
Distracting Ourselves with Service: A Call to Know the God We Are Serving If you look at Luke 10:40, there is a remarkable statement. Luke says that Martha was distracted by much service. Of course the service he was talking about was her serving Jesus. Does this shock you? Did you know that serving God could actually be a distraction, not a good thing? Most of us feel like serving God is always a good thing don't we? But then we sometimes wonder why serving God makes us so anxious, self-righteous, or tired. Today I want to talk about when service becomes a distraction and how we can learn to serve God in a way that encourages us and draws us toward him, instead of distracting us from him and leaving us feeling frustrated, tired and confused.

It is Finished But It Isn't Over
As we get to John 19:17 and Jesus is finally crucified we get to the heart of God's working with man. Here as Jesus says in verse 30 is the purpose for His coming into the world. One word in the Greek, tetelestai, signals that His mission has been accomplished. We read it in these words in our English Bibles, "It is finished!" These are the most important words ever uttered in all of human history. But we must ask, "What was finished?" What was God's plan, Jesus' mission?

Blessed Persecution, Pt. 1 (Matthew 5:10-12)
Throughout the beatitudes, the Lord has been laboring to make clear what it means to truly be a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. He has, in a few verses, managed to turn the religious thinking of His day upside down. Now as we come to the end of our study of the beatitudes we are confronted with one of the most shocking statements the Lord ever uttered. The Lord gives His most extensive treatment to this last beatitude. First, let me just note the structure of these verses. In v. 10 the Lord ends the inclusio which began in v. 3, now returning to the present tense, “Theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” As opposed the previous 6 verses, “shall be,” which looks forward to the ultimate and final fulfillment at the end of the age; in heaven. Verses 11-12 expand on His statement in v.10. To understand what the Lord is teaching us here we are going to break it down into 5 truths about persecution that will encourage us to live more boldly & more decisively for Christ. They are: (1) REALITY, (2) REASON, (3) RESULT, (4) RESPONSE, and (5) REWARD of persecution. We are going to look at the first 3 this morning.
