Our Efforts to Bring About God's Will
Once Naomi realized that Baoz, who had showed such kindness and mercy to Ruth and Naomi in Ch. 2, was a kinsman-redeemer, she sprung into action. She instructs Ruth on how to present herself to Boaz to invite marriage. Naomi becomes active in seeking God's blessings in Ruth's life through this custom of a kinsman (levir)- redeemer (goel). This sermon extracts the wisdom we need, the dutiful obedience to which we are called, and the gracious redemption of which we partake. We can learn from Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz about faithful Christian living.
The 'You Complete Me' Myth
Today we'll tackle the "you complete me myth" and discover lessons about singleness from the life of Ruth. You might think or feel you are ordinary, but God wants to work in our ordinary lives and do extraordinary things. The story of Ruth is about a single woman who found completeness in an extraordinary God.
Where's God When I Hurt?
This sermon shows how God is still present in the lives of those who suffer great loss. It is evident in the lives of Naomi and Ruth after the deaths of their husbands. Christians today can find comfort in knowing that God loves and cares for His people even when life turns painful and apparently hopeless.
Bethlehem Stories
Bethlehem. Most of us only know about this village as the place of baby Jesus’ birth. Yet, Bethlehem existed as a village long before the birth of Jesus. What happened in this village prior to that event? It might surprise some to learn that this small village was very important in the history of Israel in Old Testament times. In fact, one could argue that what happened there on Christmas night was really a fulfillment of the lessons of Bethlehem going back ages and generations.
