Faith to See, Courage to Live
Insights and encouragement as we begin a time of Sabbath and renewal, Rev. Mansell and his family personally and John Knox Presbyterian as a church.
Rhythm of Rest and Recreation
Because of the goodness with which God has endowed His creation, we can recreate. Because of the good news with which Christ has graced His new creation, we can rest. So restore the rhythm of rest and recreation in your life.
John 5:1-18
There are many things people try to do to save themselves. We try everything from at-home remedies to self-help to urban legends, but in the end, they all fail us. Jesus gives us life in Him. As Jesus worked on the Sabbath to heal a paralyzed man, we see that Jesus works so that we can rest in Him.
Virtue of Self-Control
Self-control is the second on the list of Christian virtues given by Peter (2 Peter 1:5-7). Sadly, the modern man misunderstands God's mastery and the weakness of his flesh. We cannot stop eating Lays potato chips or stay focused long enough to memorize Scripture. Peter expects Christians to develop an self-control as they surrender their whole selves (body, mind, will) to Jesus.

In this sermon we look Jesus' response to questions regarding the Sabbath.
