The Cost of Discipleship: Pursuing Ease and Safety or Hard Obedience?
In Acts 21 we find Paul headed toward Jerusalem. He has a mission to finish, an offering to deliver and an assignment to fulfill - but there is trouble ahead. Like signs on a highway, the warning lights appear ahead of time. One road is hard, the other is easy. What should he do? Today in the Word we will look at different versions of the Christian life to discern which one rings true. In a sense, Paul’s dilemma is no different from Jesus’ dilemma which is no different from our dilemma.

Participation and Progress
God has always intended that His people would so love Him, so trust Him, and so respond to His grace that they would show Him off to each other and this world. They’re to be a display people, a people that tell the world what He’s like by living in such a way that provokes questions and curiosity about the God they love and are loved by. This is what the book of Nehemiah is about. This is the real mission of Nehemiah. This is the real work of God. He wants to revive and restore what has been destroyed by doubt, fear, hopelessness, apathy, and injustice so that the world would know He’s a God who rebuilds what Adam and Eve and you and I have torn down.

Triumph and Treachery
How do we deal with others who deceive us, mistreat us, threaten us, and misunderstand us? By saying today, Father forgive them, they don’t understand what they’re doing. Help me to love them as you have loved me. Help me to not cling to my life and need their approval. Help me to love and fear only you. Thank you for freeing me from the need to control my life and to need approval from others. Let me live out of that truth as you restore me so that others can see how good you are.

The Ultimate Insurance Policy
Psalm 91 consoles those of us who live in a dangerous world filled with disease, disaster, and death and convinces us to completely and confidently trust in God alone for our security and protection. The psalmist demonstrates that God's protection comes by way of our profession of faith and that we must regularly run to the refuge of our Lord instead of trying to rely on our own means and our own strength. The promise of God's protection is our ultimate insurance policy and as such, true safety and rest can only be found through trust and faith in Him and the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
